Nice one... and I for one LOVE trans black! Was that one from an HCF'er named DropthisD?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes! The guy's name is Phil and he was great to work with. He traded this guitar for my sparkle blue GMW and some cash on my part. Good catch!

Absolutely stunning guitar. But the headstock does nothing for me. What pickups are in there and how does it sound?

[/ QUOTE ]

Travis,

The neck is a Suhr DSV, the single coil is a Suhr VLP (the best single coils out there) and the bridge is a Suhr HSV. I can get some incredible sounds out of it -- it's really versatile. The clean and semi-dirty sounds are just as good as the balls out distortion tones. It is my second Suhr, and I am really impressed with how well built these guitars are. I have had two Andersons and they didn't do it for me, but the Suhrs are awesome.

Is that a pau ferro board? I love the top, hate the color but the overall guitar works. Very nice.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pau ferro all the way. The top is maple over an alder (not basswood - I hate basswood) body. Thanks!

I was seriously thinking of getting that guitar bro but, I've spent $8K so far in gear so far (including 1 Suhr) so I took too long deciding on purpose... enjoy it... and let me know if you ever need to sell in the future

Holy crap, that is gorgeous!!! That's the best trans black I believe I've ever seen, especially with the natural binding. Congrats

Mark, thanks for the reply.

For those of you who have played/owned both GMW's and Suhr's, how would describe the playability of each. You seem to say that they are equally playable, but of a different vibe. Can anyone elaborate on that?

Re: This might make me give up GMWs forever

Most GMW's have a thin-medium thickness raw unfinished neck. So the feel is great however, they don't route out the neck pocket so it has a block heel. Suhr does route out the neck pocket so the higher fret access is much better. I prefer Suhr's thinnest neck with a satin finish. My guitar is Pleked and it feels consistent everywhere on the fretboard. It feels like I'm playing on air and is strung with 10's that feel like 9's. I would say that a Suhr wins in a playability contest IMO.

Not ture Robotech, GMW does offer the contoured heel, its an option, one I don't like personally. I think the more wood where the neck meets the body better. I don't have a problem with 22 fret access.

Oh okay I didn't know... no one I know owns a GMW with sculpting. I definitely would order that option if I were getting a GMW though... why fight the heel if you don't have to?

Re: This might make me give up GMWs forever

Comparing GMWs and Suhrs? That's a tough one. The Suhr is like a Lexus or BMW, and the GMW is like a Corvette or Viper? Hell, I don't know. They are both great guitar lines, and I'm not getting rid of my GMWs (I just thought it would make a funny title).

Suhr comes from the Fender camp, and Lee comes from the Charvel camp. I hate Fenders -- the quality sucks, their necks are too big and uncomfortable and laquered with all that crap, and their management are dicks. John's necks are 100 times more comfortable than Fenders, have flatter profiles and more shoulders, and they offer the D profile which is supposedly more like the necks we like. This neck is a 1 5/8 with an even c slim profile. I also have another Suhr with an 1 11/16 nut width and an even C. Very nice.

Maybe the question should be which one lends itself better to shredding?

Re: This might make me give up GMWs forever

I really like a Suhr with the even c slim. It feels really comfortable to me. Like "buy me right now" comfortable. It is more rounded than my GMW which seems to have more of a U shape vs. a C. I've played the Classics, Standards, Carved, and Classic Ts. They are all very consistent and tend toward early Fender designs in the cutaways etc. However, I don't own any Suhrs. I do own Andersons. For some reason there is something about the Andersons that I like more. I'm still on the lookout for a Suhr I like...

Okay,

So maybe I AM thinking of getting rid of my GMWs. This guitar is incredible.

Re: This might make me give up GMWs forever

I've owned 6-7 Suhrs and over 20 GMWs.
The biggest difference is GMW offers more choices on hardwares, colors and small details such as body shapes of how you want them to be.
So if you are thinking of ordering what you really want, GMW would be the way to go because Lee can build you exact thing you want.
Suhr guitars, you have to choose from the limited options such as hardwares, body shapes.
Amazing thing is Suhr offers MANY neck shapes and frets that I think is great.
Also Suhr pickups sound great too.
I had 60's shape, D shape, C even and Reb Beach which is thinner than C slim.
The problem for me is when you order a guitar with oiled finish neck, there wil be no gurantee for the neck.

Both GMW and Suhrs are great and they are my favorites.
if I were to order one,I'd go with GMW because Lee can build me a guitar exactly how I want and also it will be about 1K less than Suhr.
I'd love to grab couple of used Suhr guitars again though.

GWM is a lot cheaper. Seems like the Suhrs are even more expensive than Andersons. Used, they are a great deal.
