I would also check out Edwards by ESP.I own one and think it is a very well made guitar. The ESP guys rate them in between the Standard series and the LTD 1000s.I would have to agree with there assement. There are quite a few listed on Ebay at any given time.Mike

My take on it is the Epi elite is a well made guitar, but for the money, you can get a really nice Edwards limited

The Tokai made in Korea are ok, I think they're better than Epi's by far. The MIJ Love Rocks from the 80's are killer as Tommy & JG say..

Re: Tokai Love Rock Vs Epiphone Les Paul
The cheap Korean Love Rocks are close to the quality of Epiphone. But with Epiphone, you never know where the wood is coming from. They just source the cheapest supply, I'd guess, judging from I have seen in inconsistancies coming through a friend's shop. Beware of getting Epi tops too wet, the masonite top will expand and come unglued.
The higher end Edwads are decent, but I would save up and get a good new or near new Japanese, Tokai Love Rock. They range from $800~$3500 new. The new Tokai's made in Japan are awesome guitars, If you can get past not having the Gibson name on the headstock.
My local shop speaks English and does ship to North America...
