What a coincidence . An RGX612A in white ( identical to yours ) was my main giging guitar for years.

Yeah I have 2 of them now it only took forever I used the other one to learn some stuff on like I put a Monkey grip in the body I learned how to paint guitar bodies on that one. I'm gonna have it repainted & restore it.

Re: 80\'s Yamaha RGX series

I have had 2 - thought they were great except for the trem.
I still have a USA made Pacifica 812 (I think) ser # 069. It is made from Warmoth components - looks similar to the one that Caffery plays - Natural maple top (ala PC1), H/S/H p'ups, "z" inlays.
Great except the trem !!

Re: 80\'s Yamaha RGX series

I used to have a single-hum metallic black RGZ with maple fretboard: one of the sharpest, yet heaviest tone guitars I ever owned, wish i still had it sometimes, great damn neck...I think I bought it for only $75 in a pawn shop, too...

...and I like this one better: http://cgi.ebay.com/YAMAHA-RGX612S-RGX-6...1QQcmdZViewItem

Re: 80\'s Yamaha RGX series

I have an RGX 1220S and also a 1221S, both neck-throughs.
The 1221S is HSS, and I got it mint with hardcase for $300.
The 1220S I got with no case and some minor paint chips on the neck, for $65! The Yamaha Floyd bridge was missing a saddle and you can't get those parts from Yamaha. So I got it and threw a Schaller Floyd on it that I got used for $35 and was in business. It doesn't quite fit the recess though so you can't pull up much. I find the Yamaha trem on the 1221S to work fine though, but I graphite my pivots and knife edges periodically which really helps.

I also have an RGZ 312, RGX 312, RGX420S, and a RGZ211M and they're all very nice for the money ($100, $75, $120 and $51 respectively). They used to go for almost nothing; I notice people trying to get more for them now but they relist again and again with no bites.
Ron is the MAN!!!!

I currently use an old RGX as back up for my Dinky xl. Nice guitar. The trem was balls and had been swapped out for some random licensed floyd before I got it. Nice neck and everything. HSH, 24 frets, sculpted plate-less heel, and an all over body clear plastic scratchplate that, according to the guy who set it up, was so you could put these paper sheets under it that you got from Yamaha to truly customise it. Ive got also got an old SE110 single pickup strat copy that I got for $20 which has a hot as hell pickup in it.
