There is alot of misinformation in Niccolai's post.

There is at least one neck thru Schecter model I know of (C-1 Classic) I am sure there is more. Like ESP most of their guitars are set neck or set thru (from what I understand the set neck all access is the same as a set thru). They use EMG's on quite a few of their models. The Hellraiser series is EMG's as well as some of the others. Not to mention I'd take a Duncan over an EMG any day (thats a personal preference though).

Haven't had or know of anyone who has had problems with Schecter electronics beyond the usual dodgyness of import electronics in general. Both of my current import guitars have had to be resoldered in some way or another, it just happens and for those curious thats a Jackson and a BC Rich. ESP is notorious for it though, and my personal experience with them has been mostly in the way of bad fretjobs (sharp frets, not level, not seated properly etc). But when your dealing with imports this happens to any company because you don't have the level of QC that you do with a US smaller production facility.

Basically play the Schecter, play an ESP and anything else in the price range and let your fingers tell you whats best.

The post your refering to wasn't Shecter in comparison to ESP, just specific generalizations Shecter is related with. Not to say ESP doesn't have similar problems in some cases.

I too have had sharp frets on virtually every ESP Bass I own. I haven't seen the problem on thier import guitars though. Never sloppy electronics, fret leveling, or fret seating though; but none of those three are beyond possability.

I have an RG421, Wizard 2 neck, 2 hums, hardtail, Made In Japan, somokin guitar on the used market, because they discontinued them recently. They make the same guitar in Korea now though, for about $279. They make many RG models now with the Wizard 2 neck. I acctually prefer the Wizard 2 neck over the Wizard neck, just a little more meat on it. Jack.

        Update:

I went to GC and played a few guitars. I have a few things to say..

First off. HOLY CRAP. Where did Crate come from? I have always thought they were under rated, but the amp I played out of was un freaking believable. It helped test out a guiar very much.

Second, I tried three Schecters while I was there; a C-1 elite, a C-1 plus, and the C model with the viney looking inlays. I like the elite the best. They had no RG's that appealed to me, so the only thing left for me to do is possibly play an Esp or a Dean if I can get my hands on one. If I can somehow get to an ESP dealer, I would really like to try out the afformentioned ESP guitar (ESP LTD MH400 NT). It is a set thru, has emg's, the right bridge, and I feel it looks more nice than the Schecter. The price is about the same as well.. What do you guys think?

Of course I'm partial to the mh400nt, and in second place is the schecter. Not big on the Deans and I strongly dislike Ibanez guitars (I do like thier SR bassline though).

The ESP might be tough to find, as the MH400nts went through a long back order so not tons of places have them in stock, but you may find the similar MH250NT (neckthrough, EMGs, tonepros bridge), or you may find one of thier floyd rose models (mh250, mh400) apealing enough to order the non trem version.
