Where do you get these kits?

[/ QUOTE ]
They are not kits. Musikraft is similar to Warmoth in that they make bodies and necks. You can spec out the neck and body and go from there. Paint and hardware you have to locate yourself. Musikraft is at www.musikraft.com

Nice job, looks sweet!

I like Musikraft necks. I have one Charvel replica. I bought another one that I'm waiting for the body to get done and I just ordered a 3rd neck from them.

About $1,100 and that included $240 for someone to assemble and set up.

My 84 San Dimas is like that. I have grown accustomed to it there so I purposly did that with the new one.

JCFr's,

I'm trying to get more involved with this board and meeting the wants/needs of the consumer. It's important for all of you to understand that we can't be everything to everyone, otherwise we'd be out of business.

That being said, I just don't understand why anyone who supposedly is a fan and supporter of the Charvel or Jackson brands would buy knockoff parts and a knockoff Charvel logo. Maybe someone can explain this to me rationally.

Thanks!

Re: Musikraft San Dimas replica

I can only speak for myself but for me its fairly simple, when Charvel releases a production model replica like the one pictured with a strat headstock and other options -- you'll have my money. Until then I'll buy used GMW's and Musikraft/NOS Jackson and Charvel necks to fill the void.

A lot of the "knockoff" parts are on par with FMIC/JMIC's. GMW filled that void for years until the C& D on the headstocks. Since day one most C/J fans said bring back the Charvel line (thanks for that btw) and let us have strat headstocks. I think we're getting there and I'l be in line when we do get there

Re: Musikraft San Dimas replica

i think the biggest hurdle is that stratheads are what many of the guys who grew up on charvels preferred. that they can only currently be had as limited editions is probably a big reason why this kinda stuff goes on. i think that the fact that they're available in ANY capacity whatsoever is awesome, and i (and i'm sure many of the others here) applaud that.

on the other hand, it's often much easier for joe everyman to grab aftermarket parts here and there, be it used (ebay) or direct from an aftermarket manufacturer, and slap together a parts kit. if you're not too picky about finish options and condition, you can make out with somethin cool for not a lot of dough. however, from what was posted above, the total dollars paid for this guitar is pretty comparable to buying a new charvel. so i guess it must be the headstock issue. please don't take that as me complaining about that in any way.

all brands have this kinda thing going on; just look at the stratocaster or telecaster; there's many who make their own from scratch or parts, and they may all have differing reasons why they choose to go that route. different hardware, frets, neck shapes, etc. hell, charvel started for that main reason.

personally, if you want to make a super strat styled guitar, i don't have an issue with it. i have huge issues with people putting knockoff logos on the headstock though. but that's just me. that shit drives me nuts, and i've ranted about it here for years. i don't bother anymore because it's like arguing with a brick.

Re: Musikraft San Dimas replica

My guess it has to do with not being able to get a Strathead Charvel except in limited runs. If Musikraft can license stratheads for a nominal fee from Fender why can't Jackson/Charvel?

I looked at the site and saw you could get a neck with most features people look want with relatively low cost. For mutt projects it's a great way to go.

Until Stratheads are available in more options from Jackson/Charvel I think you will see people continue buying knockoffs like this.

If Charvel offered a strathead as an option on any guitar, I think sales would go up, and aftermarket stuff would fall. Although as stated earlier in this thread, people will continue to buy strathead necks for mutts if they can't afford a new guitar, because they might have the other parts already laying around. JMO

I know that the Fender headstock is in demand. However, I always bought a guitar based on feel, not the headstock shape. I guess that's where I'm a bit mystified. If the neck feels right, the price is virtually the same, and you want a Charvel, why does the pointy headstock stand in the way?
