I have talked one to one with John and he is a cool guy . Yes , he has his opinions. I debated a few points with him and he took onboard my points and I can totally understand where he is coming from .
He may sound abrasive in type but I don't think that it is meant that way . You can forgive him for being a bit defensive when debating with 100 members who have a different viewpoint .
I think it is great that he is interacting directly with us .

Come on Tim, cut the guy some slack. I'm sure John feels like he just walked into the dog pound wearing a meat shirt. His point of view is different from ours. He's behind the scenes and we're part of the buying public. There's only so much he can say and several more reasons why he can't say things.

This is a great thread, plenty of discussion going on. But honestly, the point has been driven home, several times.

I wouldn't have said anything really if it weren't for the "get back at Fender" comment. I don't think anyone here has given two seconds worth of thought about "getting back at Fender". Ok, maybe now they have

This is a good thread. The fact that it is back has restored my faith in the JCF

We need to remember that John jumped in on this thread and ask the questions. We didn't make him post and reply. We all replied honestly, and for the most part politely.

I'm also glad the thread is back because Jamie is a new guy here on the JCF. He's also a pro musician who has actually sold a few records back in the day (even though you may have never heard of Holy Soldier )

I hope we're not being asked to give John special treatment because he's a Jackson employee. I think everyone on the board deserves respect unless they're consistently an ass on the board. It takes time and effort for everyone to be on this board regardless of their employer.

No, but since he is a Jackson employee, some people are more apt to throw him more attitude than need be. He can certainly take care of himself, but I would rather people realize that he could just sit back and read and not participate. We've already run off other JCMI employees. So if you run him off with attitudes then you've cut off a pipeline to information.

This pipeline to information is what sets us apart from other Jackson/Charvel boards.

What other Jackson/Charvel boards?

I think we all know about Charvel Central. What else is out there?

I didn't read too much of this thread, mainly because all the bickering wore me out. I have a simple solution to this... build a Fender branded guitar with a strat headstock, rear loaded controls, flat or compound radius fretboard with San Dimas style backshape, Floyd, a couple of hums, etc...

Oh wait... that won't work. People will wine about the logo.

Or they could make an import version with the above mentioned options like someone mentioned a couple of pages ago... nope... then people will complain that they are "cheapening" the Charvel name.

Let's face it. Nothing that FMIC does will be enough for some. There will always be whining.

I say hats off to FMIC. I have two of the San Dimas reissue pointies and they are my main players. I love 'em! A couple of years ago that was an impossibility, so I'm a happy camper just to see gold logoed Charvels widely available.

Hmm. Glad to see this thread return. Hope the emotions didn't run too high here.

I think John evidenced some pretty thick skin and deserves a for having put up with some of the responses here. (If he were unfortunate enough to be in upstate NY, I'd actually buy him one. ) In fact, he deserves a just for being here and conversing at all.

John, obviously a few of us let our emotions get away a little too much. But, hopefully, you can understand that the vast majority of us just have a very strong passion about our enthusiasm for Charvel guitars, and that is reflected in our opinions on such matters. Including the occasionally-poorly chosen words used to state those opinions.

Thanks again for listening to us nutjobs.

Have you played a guitar built by Mike Shannon?

[/ QUOTE ]

Several...and I stand by my initial comment. A master builder simply has little opportunity to bring significant added value to the simplistic design of a bolt on single hum instrument. As most of these instruments are being used in a high gain setting, wood tapping/tuning has little value as well when compared to guitars used in more tonally dynamic settings.

Neck through construction is a whole different story. Mike Shannon is great craftsman but his craft doesn't shine in the setting that we are talking about...kinda like Miles Davis playing a kazoo.

LOL! Nice...and I couldn't put it any better.

BTW: Thanks for asking!

I enjoyed this thread and the commentary. Some of us put a little too much emotion behind our comments (me included), but in the end, we're all passionate about Charvel and Jackson.

I try to be respectful and polite in my postings and I think Todd is asking that we all follow the Golden Rule. Whether we agree or disagree, a polite discussion/debate is always a good thing.

I enjoyed the discourse on this thread. My questions were aimed at provoking deeper discussion from you, and it worked. I agree with Todd that many points have now been driven home many times.

khab made a great point....and in the end, whether we allow Fender headstocks or not, someone will always disagree, and that's OK.

Rupe...I don't agree with you about Mike Shannon built bolt-on guitars, but we can agree to disagree. I'm lucky enough to work with Mike and can compare his stuff against other guitars (C/J regular models and other brands) every day. High gain or not....it's all about the mojo, and Mike has it. That mojo is in every piece he builds, and it is a rare intangible thing that sets apart Mike's instruments from 2 pieces of wood with strings on it.

shreddermon.....I'll buy you one if we ever meet.
