• I scored a new guitar... for free!!!

Thats right. I scored a new guitar to go with the $20 dollar kelly I bought from my brother. A friend was getting rid of some of his old gear and he offered to give me his Yamaha EG112! Pretty cool considering I dont have a playable guitar right now. I know by itself the Yamaha does not seem like much, but with some mods it will become my main guitar....

I have some questions about said modifications.
1. As it is right now, it has a H/S/S setup. I am thinking about putting a new pickguard on because it needs it and because I really would like to remove that middle single coil. Can I put a pickguard that has a H/X/S configuration on a guitar that normally came with a H/S/S pickguard?

2. How much should I expect to pay for a new neck? I am looking to put a PC Jackson neck on it if possible. That or a charvel neck like the one you see when you first enter the site. How much should I expect to pay for either one of those two?

After the new pickguard, the new neck, and some emg's, this guitar will rock!

"After the new pickguard, the new neck, and some emg's..."

...you will have spent way too much money on this guitar. If you can spend this much money, just buy something used set up how you want already.

+1.
I know a guy who got a free Yugo and did the same thing.

You'll end up spending more than the guitar is worth on a new neck, and you'll end up spending more than the guitar costs new on the pickguard, neck, pickups, and labor.

I would shine it up, sell it, and put the money towards something new more to your specs.

All things considered, you could get most of the features you want in a used Jackson Performer PS-7. It has the PC-style headstock, Wilkinson trem, pickguard (H/S/S) and would be a nicer guitar.

Why not just leave the Yamaha as-is? I bought my wife a Yamaha Pacifica Tele copy, and it's not a bad guitar at all. Actually, hers has an "almost-Strat" headstock and a pretty decent neck.

I wouldn`t put a dime into it bro. Just play her, and save for the PS-7 or the like. Jack.

I agree, I will be putting more money into it than it is worth. The two things I would really like to change are to put a new pickguard on, and replace the stock pickups. The reason for the new pickguard is my little sister colored all over the original one with black permanent marker. I suppose that is a cosmetic thing that does not really need to be fixed. The pickups will need to be replaced. The stock ones sound like poo.
I have a birthday coming up, and my family usually likes to get me guitar stuff. I am thinking a new pickguard and some new pickups are not too unreasonable? The neck is actually really nice for a cheap yamaha guitar. I would really hate to replace it with something that I may have fallen in love with.
