  • Takamine EF341 SC

I picked up this guitar (Takamine EF341 SC) and played it about 2 years ago at a Sam Ash. I really like it, so I decided I wanted to buy it, but as the Sam Ash worker was looking in the store for the case (about 15 min), I kept trying out different guitars and came across the Martin D-16GT. I changed my mind and bought the Martin instead.

The Martin is not an electric/acoustic, so it very rarely gets used. I don't want to hack it up to make it electric/acoustic, so I'm looking at purchasing this Takamine model for gigging with.

It is black with cut away. 20 frets (I think)

Anyone own this model or played one. Really looking for inputs on this.

If that is indeed the Takmine you want, I would consider upgrading to the TF341DLX, which has the Cool Tube preamp instead of the CT4B that comes on the EF341SC.
I think these guitars are in the Keystone series.

I'll check it out. I remember the EF341SC sound though. It's stuck with me the last couple of years.

        DonF,

I own this exact model, and I love it! I bought mine in the mid nineties. What struck me right away was the playablilty, which was almost electric-like. Perfect for me, since I am very much an electric player. I have gigged with the guitar, and she is great on stage. Great presence and tone. I do boost a bit at the low end on the EQ, as I think that the cutaway does affect the tone abit. I used to jam w/ a friend of mine who had a full-bodied Taylor, and you could hear the difference in tone caused by the cut-away. (of course, his Taylor was about 3X the cost of my Takamine!)

What kind of gigging are you looking to do? With a full band, solo, or Acoustic ensemble? Let me know if you have any specific questions ....

We're mostly an electric band. Goofy cheesy cover sh*t, but once in a while we'll throw in some acoustic No Doubt/Sheryl Crow/Eagles stuff.

I usually bring a 12 string, which is great sounding, but if I'm playing along with the lead guitarist, he's usually playing his electric clean. Would sound nice with another acoustic accompanying me or vice versa.

Yeah, you know, Taylors never did it for me. At least the one's I've tried. I like the Martin, and I had mentioned in another thread about 2 weeks ago, about seeing someone up on stage in Key West with a Martin. It really sounded good, but run thru a soundboard. I have a Dean Markley pickup for it, but was asking about converting it into an electric acoustic. I guess I can have a pickup added behind the soundhole cover, then run the input jack to the strap button, but no EQ.

I'm going to a music shop today to check somethings out (as there are other electric guitars I'm looking at (GAS Attack)). As much as I like the Martin, if I got a good deal on something I like, I may be willing to part with it

I have a EG 541 SC with the cutaway and preamp...it's decent but has a couple of finish flaws...I'm selling it cause I don't really love the sound (guess I'm gonna have to go non-cutaway next time) and also, I really prefer ebony over rosewood fretboards. Nice guitar for the money though.

Has anyone tried the Cool Tubes preamp?
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Yes sir. I just sold my Takamine TF250SMC with the cool tube. It sounded unbelievable going through a PA system. It's too bad my hand kept cramping because of the neck.
