• Gibby Explorers

Who has them? Anyone have pics of theirs? I'm considering going this route, and need a little help. I've played them before, and I know Gibson's QC is definitely hit/miss.

I have 4 of them. Black 1995 with a mirror guard, Purpleburst 1984, Black 1981 project with Gibson style kahler, 2003 Yellow X-plorer Pro. I never had any issues with any of them. The newer ones are definitely heavier than the older ones, but they all sound great. I'll see if I can get some photos. May be getting rid of a few soon...

Pete, if you get rid of the black 1995 one, let me know . I'm trying to decide between which I like best - the black or white. I'm leaning towards the black, but I love the fact that the new white ones have ebony boards.

Re: Gibby Explorers

I've got a Gothic Explorer. It's my best sounding guitar and I love the feel of the 59' rounded neck. Even the 76' reissue explorers are kickass. I think personally my next explorer might be an ESP, just because of the slightly smaller/slimmer back end, but for now my Exploer does the job fine. I think I might end up selling it just to make ends meet (might be moving to FL in a few months), but the Gibson Explorer is definatly a kickass guitar. I plan to buy the red wine and white one later on. I didn't realize the white ones comes with Ebony boards, that's definatly a cool thing.

I'm leaning towards a gothic right now, I like the idea of the ebony board and only one moon inlay. We will see...

I have a '76 RI. Naturalburst. It's my favorite color after that it's black or white.
Check out the Korean Hamer Standard if you are looking for cheap and good, I liked the feel of my old one - slightly different angles.

Oh man those are all beautiful. The Explorer is definatly my favorite shape, it was my first guitar I bought with my own money, but damned if it ain't a b*tch to carry that case on the train in NY. Almost impossible...especially for a guy with little patience. Ken Lawrence makes another beautiful one, but I doubt I'll ever have that much extra $ laying around to buy one

[/ QUOTE ] You could, but both of those Gibsons cost me less than 1 Hamer or 1 GMP, and I am willing to bet they play and sound just as good.

They all are nice, though I prefer the plainness of the Gibsons.
