Re: Am I going insane???

Congrats! Hope you like it. I had two from different stores and did not like the quality. The tuners are terrible and the neck on the second one did not use maple (some other kind of maple looking wood). I swapped my Squire Mini for a Fender Strat Junior and I'm much happier. It's 10 times the quality and has an Alder body. Although the Jr. will run you 3-1/2 times more money than the Mini.

Strats to me are really hit and miss. You can go through a dozen of them in a store and every one of them sounds different (good and bad.) Then you run across that gem that playes and sounds just badass. I was fortunate enough to run across a used 40th Anniversary strat about 10 years ago. This thing was badass and it only needed a fretjob. It was slightly beat up. But, man this thing played and sounded so sweet for specific types of music. Its my most favorite neck / neck mid pickup position guitar I have ever played.

So, I took this thing, put a duncan in the bridge / changed the pickguard. I play it all the time when I am playing clean or figuring out tunes.
Insert annoying equipment list here....

That's why some of us play Charvie's. When s-heads come out, you will have the best of both worlds.

That little ax is cool though. And I can see my boy getting one in the future! (little young now, but the time is flying by)

I've got one of the 50th anniversary models, and it's perfect. It plays and sounds great, and the quality is excellent. I really like the feel of the neck, too. I think if you're going to get a strat, get a S-S-S with a vintage trem - a true strat. You've probably got several "metal" guitars anyway.

+1, a strat without s/s/s isn't a real strat imo and maple fretboards are great too on strats, but that's just my personal preferance

Go for a used Hamer USA Daytona, some were made with maple or rosewood boards and some with alder or swamp ash bodies. Great guitars for about $400-500 used. Jack.

The early squires are great guitars. If you can find one with Fender and stratocaster on the headstock buy it.I had a 3 bolt neck squire with the 70's headstock and it was a fine guitar. They are somewhat collectible.

any of the mexico made strat's are good guitars, if you are the kind of person that is gonna rip out the pickups and put in what you want then i would actually suggest getting a used mexico one or new and building it to your expectations. It amazes me the quality that comes out of the plant.

You can find real jems among the Mexican and Japanese models, but you will find much more consitancy among the US models. Depending on how much you want to spend, I have yet to play a custom shop strat that wasn't great and there are alot of used ones out there that are reasonably priced. I have a '95 Custom Shop American Classic that I purchased new and has only needed one neck adjustment that entire time! The thing is bulletproof and plays and sounds amazing.

It doesn't amaze me. They are really only assembled in Mexico. The necks and bodies are USA factory seconds. I had one, and the "flaw" was a 3/4" long, 1/4" wide green mineral streak on the back of the neck. The body was a solid color, so you couldn't see it. If you come across one with woodgrain showing through, walk away, because it is a veneer.

Its weird, because I cant put this guitar down,l even though it a cheap POS and probably made of the cheapest material...never tried a real strat, but it's fun....does anyone know if a real strat is good? I'm seriously thinking of picking up a US strat or deluxe...

I'm that sort of guy that sold his Jackson and bought a Fender. Everyone has his own taste, but Fender is 100 times better for my taste.
