Re: Telecaster fans unite.....Whats in the case?

thanks for the kind words guys!!!

here is a closeup of the custom machined piston knobs that are on 2 of the teles...

unfortunatly i don't think the person who made them for me is doing them anymore.

also cheap plug but both the black and gold teles are on the market (minus the piston knobs that is )

Re: Telecaster fans unite.....Whats in the case?

Shawn, congrats on the new Tele. I do have a question though. I have a '68 Reissue Custom Shop Les Paul Custom that was professionally aged, minus the dings, gouges, worn frets, and grubby fretboard. In other words, mine looks like it was kept under the bed for several years.

Knowing that Custom Shop Fenders are not cheap, what was your initial reaction when you opened the case and saw a guitar that been distressed from A to Z?

I guess it's just hard for me to imagine spending that kind of coinage on a guitar that's new, yet looks like it's mated with a ball pin hammer.

I agree with Germandeth, I cannot imagine ordering a new guitar at a price like that one cost and having rust on it when it arrived. especially rust that was intentionally cultured, so to speak. LOL

each to their own, but I'm really surprised by this whole "relic" thing that's going on these days. I want my guitars to look brand new and super clean, just my preference.

I cant really explain it. I have no problem with a beat up tele(and to some extent, strats), as a matter of fact, I love em, but that doesnt apply to Jacksons, Charvels, etc...

I like beat up Teles, what can I say, screw you guys...Poke Poke

Yea, I can see Shawn's preference for these. There definitely has been a market for these (relics) for sometime. For myself, I wouldn't bother getting one of these. I do like having my guitars pristine looking. If I even got a scratch or dent in one, I'm messed up for several days till I get over it. Sometimes I will go to great lengths to repair a defect that I imposed on a guitar! The poor guitar, it's was not it fault!

I was just curious. I'm sure you're a lot like me. When we set our sights on something, we get it no matter what the peanut gallery thinks. One thing I did notice. That sure is a lot of flame on the back of the neck. Is that something that was customary on units from that time period?

Nah, probably not, but then again, this guitar was just BASED loosely on a 50's, then made better with "player improvements", a 63' pickup, etc... and refined by the builder......

I love all those Charvel Teles you guys have, those are cool. I was gonna put a reverse head on mine too way back when I took it apart, but never did, and I now decided to go the classic (Warmoth) route with mine.

That old Schecter is really cool...there's a guy in a band around here called Codeseven that plays a red one like that, only his is wrecked and has Roland synth stuff on it. Either way its a cool guitar, I'll see if I can't dig up a photo later today.
