Hmm that Firebrand looks so close to what I want. I will keep that as a second choice on the back of my mind.

It plays great- fast neck, light, great balance, and I prefer the dot inlays over blocks. The EMGs are a 58 in the bridge, H in the neck.

The one I am looking has crescents, which look cool and unique imho.

I don't have a problem with dots though.

I was checking closely and this SG is a single piece of mahogany. Not two like most of the newer stuff. That may explain some of the monster resonance this thing has. I am really blown away. This has to be one of the biggest tone monsters I have owned. Everything else beingf equal, the playability of this neck equals the SG that I got from Stuka (Scott C.) and takes the tone to a whole new level. This thing just screams and sounds good, unplugged, clean, preamped as well as fully distorted. I played it 6 hours today and only stopped after my fret hands fingers started to hurt to the point I thought they would bleed. Is there anything cooler than a new axe?!!! My poor LP Standard needs to start looking for a new home I fear.

Nice one Chas. So does that mean you want to sell me back my old Standard?

Hahaha nice try Scott. This axe is awesome, but so is that standard. It seems like overkill to have two, but the more guitars I play, the better I like the SG's. I restrung that standard with some heavier guage strings and am doing blues and jazz stuff on it. That's why I needed another SG so I could have my rock axe as well. I think the lack of finish on your old standard is what gives it great tonal warmth. Plus that freaking neck is like butta'. This axe's tone is cutting. The perfect hard rock sound. Makes for a monstrous combination. I am talking to a couple people who are interested in my LP now, although I may keep it as trade fodder for future G.A.S. I really want to replace my old 70s V now.
