      Ah you have one of the difficult ones to figure out. Basically it could either be a 1963 or it could be a a 1974 or 1975. If it has "made in usa" stamped on the back of the headstock then it is a 74 or 75, but if it doesnt then it is a 1963 if i am reading right.       Aggreed - odd serial number there.

      There were no 1963 Les Paul "shaped" Customs (we are not talking about an SG Les Paul, right?). The original Les Paul shape weas discontinued in 1960, with rumoured few customs shipping in 1961. The original shape was re-introduced in 1968.

      Of course the first years of SG's were "Les Pauls" as well, until Les' endorsement aggrement with Gibson ran out.
