Re: New GMW V

Yea, but I'd like the guitar to be as close to original specs as possible. The Jap model's tuners are no where close. Plus, I thought Carrguitars was "shady."

Part of me wishes this thread would be removed because I'm about to wear out my damn keyboard and mouse coming back to the damn thread every five minutes!

GD, close to original Gibson, or original Schenker playing model? cause the first thing MS did with all his V's when he got em was to slap Schaller tuners on them, and the tuners on this Japanese copy model look just like Schallers (they may be Schaller copies, but this guitar looks exactly like Schenker's block V w/ the exception of the SD stickers on the pups).

Gibson USA really screwed the pooch by not making a Michael Schenker Signature Flying V. I can't help but feel it would have out sold models like the Lenny Kravitz V, the Allen Collins Explorer, or the Dickie Betts LP. But like Imentioned in a previous thread, my source in the custom shop stated that Gibson just didn't want to be associated with a genuine nutcase.

        [/ QUOTE ]
agreed. I have always thought this, they missed the boat bigtime, and I'm sure it cost them their sales profit on literally thousands of these, cause they would have sold like a mother.

nutcase or not, he has a huge following, including me!

[/ QUOTE ] I just used Carrguitar's picture as a reference so you could see what they look like. He bought this from a japan seller and added a couple hundy to the price. These are still available from the japan sellers at the real price.

ok,I can't take the anticipation anymore....what's the neck like??Profile??Shape??Fret size??How's it play??Sound??Inquiring minds wanna know!!

            [/ QUOTE ]

Chuck, the neck has a fairly small backshape. Kinda like my Wolfie, but more even in the carve. The nut width is 1 11/16, but with the small backshape and no binding, it feels even more narrow. I like it alot because I prefer 1 5/8 nut widths. Frets are 6130 which are smaller than I normally like. However, since I have mostly been playing EBMMs and Wolfies, they are not that much smaller than whatever is on those guitars. Because of the small frets, the action is extremely low. I can't get a Dunlop Jazz III (red) between the 22nd fret and the high E string. I mean really low. Now that the guitar has been in MD a few days, there is a tad bit of fret buzz, so I will raise her up a hair.

Playability is unbelievable. Anyone could play this one. Very comfortable to play sitting down. It actually helps me keep good posture by sitting in the classical position.

Standing up is a different story. The rear strap button location makes it more difficult to play standing up. It is slightly headstock heavy, so I am having to adjust my standing position a bit. It just takes a bit to get used to. I had a GMP V that was a real bitch to play standing up because it was so neck heavy. This one is nowhere near as bad.

The fit and finish are amazing. Lee really does great work. More pics to come.
