    Re: New Priest models...........

I am stoked that 2 of my favorite guitarists from BACK IN THE DAY!!! who are in my favorite band of all time... are still relevant enough to get signature models. Considering that their first record came out in the early 70's..Rocka Rolla.. thats pretty kick ass.

Seriously guys - where do you shop that the high-end Gibsons are so bad? Everywhere I go, they kick ass.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

          me too.
the new cheap faded models are spotty, but the finished models I've played have all been very very nice.

there may be more beautiful-looking guitars than Gibsons, but there aren't many (if any) better-sounding guitars than Gibsons.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

well, i am not sure that they are that bad, but for $4299 street price guitar i would expect a jaw dropping top and pickup rings that weren't crooked. even for the $1799 or whatever the standard costs i wouldn't expect a dried out fretboard - which is what i see a lot of at the Sam Ash in clearwater.

i will concede that no guitar sounds like a LP other than a LP!! that is THE sound of rock guitar - no doubt there.

maybe some of the "complaint" i have about gibson is that some of the prices seem SO out of the park for these guitars that i EXPECT to see a FLAWLESS guitar. when it comes to that kind of money the little stuff counts. i shouldn't see the cavity screws in crooked, stain on the binding, hear ant fret buzz - let alone have an A string that frets out at the 17 fret, etc....

i mean for the price of some of these gibsons you could buy a used car, a motorcycle, etc...

that's all. they certainly don't suck, and have gotten better over the past couple of years, but you'd think Gibson would have their shit together so well at this point that you could pick up EVERY les paul and have it be flawless.

              Re: New Priest models...........

Technically speaking, high end Gibson guitars have always been expensive. The price doesn't seem to scare any true Gibson players away.

I've always wanted a V just like KK's. But a REAL '70's model. I just like the red and white, plus I'm a whore for Judas Priest stuff. Btw, WTF is the reason they are only sold as a pair?

yeah it seems they are basicaly stock instruments with changed pickups, also it doesnt say if it has long neck tenion and usally they specify. Also not sure if you noticed the fine print but they are only sold in pairs and there are only 30 pairs being made.

Long neck tenon's are for Les Pauls.

The thing that gets me is, I can pick up either of these (non-sig) versions for $500 on the bay (and SG Special is dirt cheap, and I don't see anything special about that V).

Just slam in some new pickups, and your set.

Actualy according to gibson anything coming out of the custom shop besides the regular les paul customs should have it. Now i know they put the long tennon (tenion, however you spell it) on the gibson les paul SG's, so i know it can be done on the SG type guitar.

                                Re: New Priest models...........

Gibsons have about 35 guys working on the line producing their guitars. Its pretty common among experienced players that their quality is sporatic these days.

I had an SG and an original Firebird. But once I went to a superstrat with a 25.5" scale, unpainted neck, etc... I never looked back. I find quality superstrats are simply superior guitars.

Gibsons are OK. But I find mahogany does not stick out in the mix when soloing. I don't find them particularly attractive guitars. I don't like the upper fret access of the Les Pauls although I do like the shape of the neck.

I would look at a Dean before a Gibson any day.
