You are correct on the pickups and floyd, the pickups were acutally dimarzio blaze pickups.

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, no, the pickups on the 7620 were the "New 7s". There was some literature on them that was wrong. 7620s didn't have the Blaze pups.

Yeah, the Ibanez website was wrong. I've read in a few places about the pickups being wrong in that. I actually just remembered about Jemsite, so check out the specs here.

i see, anything is possible and would not put it pass ibanez to "accidently" list the wrong pickup. Personaly i love how the K7 Guitars have the mahogony bodies, yet monkey and head where known for using the universe's that i believe were either basswood or alder.

No Blazes were put in anything from Ibanez except for the Universe. The Ibanez literature has been riddled with errors going back to at least '94. there is also no such thing as a Blaze II, though Ibanez has mentioned them in their literature as well. There are Blazes, and New 7's, and that's it. (Though DiMarzio now makes a Blaze Custom as well).

Yeah, I love how the K7s are also mahogany. And they're got PAF 7 pups, too. I would love to own one, but the K7 inlay kinda ruins it. Though, if I could find one cheap enough, I'd probably buy it anyway.

You can get a mahogany RG7 body from Eddie at EKG for 250 if you have a 7620 neck you like. I'm (since February!) having an Alder/purpleheart/walnut replacement body made for my 7620. Also, the RG's use basswood and the Universes use American Basswood, like the Jems. It's a better wood.

If I could have paid 250$ with case for my 7 string, I would have. I paid 500$ for a shitty hard tail Ibanez RG 7 string, and another 100 for the case.

Oh yeah, I remember you talking about that. I don't really need another 7-string at the moment, but it's good to know the option is there since I'm not crazy about basswood.

So what is the best 7 string for the money? In the used less than 600 market.

The best 7 for the money is the Ibanez RG-7620, IMHO. You should be able to find one in good shape for 400-450. Baically the same neck as the early Universes, with a great trem.

you know, basswood is not a bad wood, i was playing my friends RG550 the other day and it just sounds great!

I like it fine as a tonewood. My only issue with it (and it's a minor one) is that it's soft, so bassword guitars tend to get dings for knocks on them that wouldn't ding on mahogany or ash or alder. You have a wider choice of pickups with basswood than with mahogony as well. I like most wood for guitar bodies. Only maple really turns me off a guitar.

I never really cared for the tone of basswood too much.
