      Those Rands look really cool.

I was on a quest to find a 1976 LP Custom, but I tried one at the local GC and it was a huge POS. I have 5 Gibsons (mostly from the 90's up).

How do you like your LP custom? Is it heavy? Is the neck thin? Is it one of those "fretless wonders"?

My first LP was an early 70's Custom, that I sold because I couldn't stand the low frets. Yet, I still GAS for one. I'll never learn.

I have probably bought and sold 20 or more LP's from this era where I saw a Chance to make a profit. My understanding was that these were inferior instruments, so I never dreamed of keeping one until I got this one...I've owned it since '91. It has the fastest neck I have ever encountered on a LP. It is even a bit slimmer than the LP Classic models. It has the low, wide frets you think of when you talk about a fretless wonder, but they have a bit more heighth to them than most others I've played...very easy to play.
I don't know the exact weight but it is under 11 pounds...not too heavy as far as LPC's go, but definitely not a lightweight model.
This has been the most consistent guitar that I have ever owned. I have gradually gone from 9's to 11's on this guitar over the time that I have owned it, and I have never needed to adjust the neck. I have never seen this in any other guitar...there always seems to be a need for at least a small tweak (and sometimes substantial) when changing string guage.
Tonally, it is pretty versatile. The Pearly Gates in the bridge goes well with this guitar and its brightness allows for a a better clean tone when both pickups are used, as well as a more usable range on the tone knob. The neck pickup is a Duncan Jazz out of an old Jackson RR Student model (RR0550 I believe) that I absolutely love.
This would be a candidate for my "desert island" guitar.

I think they used three piece maple necks in those years. Probably why it's such a great neck.

So I'd have to sort through 20 before finding a keeper. Those are tough odds. Where the ones you didn't keep like I described? The Nashville bridge was pitted and making a smiley face because it was bowed so badly. I'd be embarrased to sell that guitar even for $1500, yet the fools at GC were trying for $3500.

While I don`t fancy the first row that much, there`s lots of cool stuff in and on the couch.
