Well Dino Cazares probably has the best picking hand among all metal players, at least in my opinion, as far as rhythms are concerned. But for that very reason I think he doesn't need more than 7. 8 is definitely overkill...

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree, Dino does have great rhythm chops, and he does use the higher strings for some cool clean, arpeggiated stuff, but I don't understand why he would need so many strings either.

anything played on the 8th string within the first 5 frets might cause the front row of the audience to crap their pants

Has anyone noticed that Dino adds strings along with body weight? Maybe he needed that guitar to keep himself from falling over backwards.

While I can understand your comments, I still think 8 strings is cool.
After all I`m a major Meshuggah fan I guess Dino is too...
Of course a downtuned 7 string would do it, but it looks badass with the wide neck and the 4+4 headstock.

Maybe I should get Shamray to build me an 8 string Rhoads..
That should create some buzz here

I wish tastes would get away from this insane deep, dropped tuned bullshit that seems so popular right now. Shit, I never go below E flat, and that is so that VH stuff sounds right.

Vai's Bad Horsie is plenty low and mean as hell...and he played that fucker on a 6 string.

I agree with Newc, just play a 4 string Bass through a Mesa.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Why don't they all just get basses and distortion pedals?

I keep wondering that myself. I can see going 8 string with a low B and a high A - that makes some sense to me, from a tonal and playing standpoint. A low F# makes no sense to me - that's what your bassist is for.
Division - American Metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on Facebook.

I still want to cover "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap. Think how ridiculous basses would sound through the Mesas. I guess we could lock Ron up in a seed pod.

Didn't Meshuggah get rid of their bass player at one time because both the guitar players decided they had enough low end with the 8-strings? Seems they still have the bass player, though.

If he only uses it for the extra bottom end, why not detune a 7?

Better hope he has complete control over the 6 OR 7 string before switching to the 8.. Steve Vai can play a 7 because he dominates on a 6, but I think a lot of people using 7s need to stick to 6 before they move on..

[/ QUOTE ]

hmm , you're correct in general but lemme tell you - Dino is one of the best metal rythm players ( and definitely the tightest/most precise one - not only on records but also live) so i assure you he can definitely use it
