Len - "spalted" refers to the dark / black lines & patches running through the wood that are the result of bacterial action / rot.

I'm not an Ibanez fan but this is an absolutely beautiful guitar!

I've never been an Ibanez fan myself, but have been flirting with "the dark side" for about a year now (since I got a Jem), and I'm hooked! In fact, I've got another RG on the way (I'll put up a separate post about that when it arrives)! [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I ran across the guy who put the top on over on Jemsite. He's a member there, but not a vendor. I told him that people might be interested in reaching him and asked if he minded if I gave out his email address. He said that it's fine to give it to people individually, but he'd prefer that I didn't just post it in a forum, so I'll just PM it to the people who want to know.

Beautiful guitar... how long did it retop take? Does he with woods other than maple?

Thanks! I shipped the guitar and body to him around Oct. 25, and he shipped them back on Dec. 1. I then applied clear coat and waited about 2 weeks for it to cure before buffing it out and putting it back together.

I don't know whether he works with other woods or not.

Thats a fantastic Spalt there. I wonder if that guy does other exotic tops. I always thought a figured cocobolo top would look badass with a nice gold hardware string thru guitar..
