Simply stunning...and easily the best looking RG I've ever seen. Congrats on a great project!

Re: Spalted Maple RG w/pix!!

Thanks, everyone!
Sasquatch: I'm getting THIS RG2120KKB. No Bubinga stripe and the neck is supposed to be thicker than this one, which sucks (plus, I'm not crazy about volutes), but I like the off-center dots, and it'll be my first "Prestige" model. I can't wait to check it out.
Noodles: Yes, he did have to apply a new decal. The original decal had a chrome look, which I really liked, but I'm glad he went with black, as it goes with the blackout hardware & electronics theme.

Holy cow, that 2120 is insanely beautiful!!(tell ya what, i'll trade you my soul for it straight up ) The off-set dots sure are neat. Also, is the neck on it the "ultra" cut that they offer? If so, they are actually quite comfortable. Those really are some great scores there, lucky duck!!

Re: Spalted Maple RG w/pix!!

Thanks, man. I think it does have the "Ultra" neck. I had to sell a killer SL2H and some other stuff to afford it, which was hard, but now comes the fun part of guitar collecting.

I'll post a review and pics in a separate thread when it arrives.

What the hell? Since when did Ibanez start making such killer guitars that Flame Koa one is incredible. Whats the full specs on that?

Re: Spalted Maple RG w/pix!!

There is very little info available on this model (even the Ibanez Register only lists it, with no pics or description), but here's what I have learned:

RG2120KKB
It's a "Prestige" model, built in 2002. I heard that 24 RG2120KKBs were built that year for the Japan market.

Mahogany body w/flame Koa top, "Ultra" neck carve w/rosewood board & off-set abalone dot inlays, no truss rod cover, Edge Lo-Pro trem, DiMarzio Tone Zone & Air Norton pickups, direct-mounted, w/5-way slide switch pickup selector.

I've heard that Ibanez made these for 2 years, with around 20 made per year.

That 2120 is gorgeous, and if you bought it from Rich it will have zero issues right out of the box as well. Nice score!

quick is that 2120 a prestige "japanese custom", cause it sounds like it. For a period of time around 2001-2002 they made some nice japanese customs available on the US market but the prices were very high. I seem to recall one that was only 15 or so made and they were close to 2k. For an import. Gorgeous guitar though, almost master grade quilt, honduras mahogany neck thru, the one in particular I speak of was HSH with some extra switches and full abalone binding (might be why it was so expensive). There was also a NAMM model the last year I went to the show that was a Prestige "custom" that had a Dan Lawrence trans JPM style graphic (ya know the Picasso style) over AAAAA flame. It was a badass looking guitar. I don't think I've ever seen a trans graphic like that but it looked pretty cool. Not as nice as Jack's trans bengal, but close.

Ibanez takes alot of shit but their Japanese made guitars were the SHIT. And the JPM's weren't to shabby either, I still regret selling mine. I am not sure where those were made.

Ibanez has a whole line of J-Customs, producing a few every year since '96. Some were very limited in number, some others were not so limited. All are as high end as Ibanez gets, though. Here's a neck through RG-9570 and a bolt on RG-8670
