I know thats not always true because some J Customs sold here in the USA had Prestige logos. I think that was just for the few years they sold them in the USA?
The abalone bound one I talked about for example was Prestige logoed. Its very odd. There seems to be alot of confusion even in the Ibanez community about what guitars are J Customs and which ones are not and if they are not then what are they? Limited Special runs? Regardless they are all imports and all killer guitars, at least those high end ones.
OK after some research I found the model I was referring to, it was apparently called the Texas Special. JC Custom made for the USA, logoed Prestige. Apparently with some of the JC Custom bolt ons in the 01-02 years they were logoed prestige but in the neck pocket the serialization denotes them as a JC Custom. Run of 12.
I also found some info on your KKB. It is apparently a JC custom as well indicated by the serial number. The top is 1mm thick flame koa veneer top (faked 3mm) which is probably why it looks so outstanding without costing an arm and a leg. a 1/8th flame koa top of that grade would typically cost a ton, but veneers are much cheaper because one piece of wood can yield a bunch of tops. Apparently a run of 20.
Seems like maybe they logoed the limited runs Prestige? Or maybe its just random or has to do with the year.
On another note that second J Custom of yours Jim (with the vine inlay) is simply outstanding.
