• To spread the GAS: French guitar brands

Yep you read it right. There are 2 main French electric guitar brands, and I'd like you guys to have a look. They're expensive, beautiful, and everyone I know agrees, astonishing quality.
They're called Lag, and Vigier *dun dun*

    Vigier:

I don't like the look of their guitars too much...

Their vibrato units work on rollbearings (a bit like Ibanez's S series Floyds, though it's a bit different from what I gather)

I think folks here have some awareness of Lag thanks to Iron Maiden's use of them in the 80s.

Of the pics you've post above, I actually prefer the look of the Vigiers. Although the Lag's headstocks are pretty cool.

Have you seen Ron Thal playing his fretless Vigier? Freeeeaky stuff, man!

        Maiden used Lado, not Lag.....

It was Phil Campbell from Motorhead that used Lag I think.

Yep, that's his main explorer style which he still uses. Not sure if anyone else of note uses Lag though....

I hear Rick Nielsen used a French guitar when Cheap Trick recorded Surrender.

They need some configurations with fewer pickups, like a single hum model.

Lags and Vigiers are cool! I almost traded a Carvin for a Lag a couple years ago, then the guy flaked on me and sold it.

Yes, the fellows in Maiden favor the French guitars when performing Run To The Hills.

I think a Shawn Lane Vigier would be pretty kick ass to snag. Has anyone seen or played one?

I had a Lag guitar a couple of years ago. Nice instrument, but it wasn't quite 'me'. Don't see many of them in the USA. I'd love to try out the Vigier Shawn Lane model, for sure.
