Re: Fender Strat guys need advice!?

I have three G&L guitars, two custom shops that are great and two Tom Anderson strat heads, all I want to know if these custom shop Fenders are any good. The ones I played are real nice. I wanted to know if all the hype is true and if I should get the one I posted a link too, I never played the new NOS 69 reissues. Fong would have been the first person I ever heard of who thought they were of inconsistant quality. I am looking for "I played one and it sucked because of .... or I owned one and they are great or I sold mine because...."

I am talking about the Fender custom shop not the regular production models if I should buy it or not thats all.

Thanks for the PM Tim I will look into that.

Thats just total bullshit-sorry fong but you are full of it.

Never to big of strat fan but A buddy bought the 50th with the gold hardware and the s1 pickups-these guitars are awesome-Another just bought the deluxe with the S1 same guitar only no anneversary-everyone should have one including me3-save 1200 and pickup one of the deluxes with the s1's for 1k these are some of the best buys out there.

Fender is putting out some of the best most consistent product out there.

Hmmm..I've played a 40th, they are nice guitars for the price and i don't reckon Fender would be dumb enough to put an Anniversary on the shelf that's going to give them a bad rep.

As for the other "regular" US Fenders, as mentioned, if i can find a Mexi strat that can beat a US strat on a good day, i won't call that consistent.

        My two cents of crap..bwhahahahaha

Hey bro they have had 50th's out for some time most are sold out, not 40th those are at least 12-15 years old.
There are different versions but the latest american deluxes both anninversary and standard models
is a bad mofo-As far as mexican strat they need set up and pickups and they are great guitars- Well worth the 350 you can get them new for-And what does a mexican strat have to do with a $2200 model?

I built my own Strat. It ended up costing about as much as a used USA Strat, but it is exactly what I wanted.

Fender makes excellent guitars, I however wouldn't pay that kind of money for one so I have no comment on if they are worth it ot not, only you can answer that I do think its a killer looking guitar tho. The USA Fenders that I've played are all excellent guitars and imho are consistent in quality.

Fender = inconsistancy. If you want a strat, get a Suhr. Fender are just a waste of time IMO. Say "NO" to Fenders. bwhahahaha

I have secretly been saying this to buddies. I own a 50th Deluxe. It is the least expensive guitar I own, a very close second price-wise to the old schecter pt, and I swear to you that the Fender deluxe, current version with the new SCN pickups is an absolute screamer. I grab that thing 40 percent of the time.

I have owned and sold 3 or 4 custom shop Strats and for playability and tone, the US deluxe killed them.

I do own a high end CS Tele that is absolutely the bomb, but as far as strats, I will take the deluxe.....

I thought it was just me.

I have a G&L Legacy HB. A couple of em have real Duncans in em, mine has a TB4 and 2 G&L Single coils that sound awsome. I dunno man, the shop I work at carries G&L & Anderson and the customers that come in actually prefer those 2 guitars to Fender. This isn't a sales pitch or anything, these guys that come in know their guitars too, and they said bang for the buck and an overall instrument, those 2 blow Fenders out of the water. Since I was never a strat player, I can't really tell ya. I say buy it, and if you don't like it return it. Otherwise you sound like you have some great guitars already

I have an American (with 50th Anniversary neck plate) in olympic white. It's my main guitar ... And it's smokin'. This thing is such a comfort, it almost plays itself. Pressing the frets is easy, eventhough my action is pretty high.

The only thing I don't like about it, is the fret buzz. But okay, it stays in tune perfectly, intonation is excellent. If you want one and you have enough money, go for it. Do not hesitate, man.

Re: Fender Strat guys need advice!?

every fender i have ever owned and played great and sounded great. My first fender was a squier that i still own and the guitar just screamed. Then i moved onto a 1990 fender deluxe that played like butter, however not being a big fan of single coils i moved it. Now i have a 2003 mexican made HSS and it is a great guitar as well, great sound great playibility.

I have noticed however i am just a mahogony bodied type person so i tend to grab my SG all the time.

Still the only reason you can find a mexican Strat that will sound as good as an american is because there is not much different between the two. The woods are pretty much the same, you buy a mexican and change out electronics and pickups and you have a damn good guitar.

They're great guitars...very consistent from one to the next in terms of quality, however they'll all have a little different "vibe" to them. I have '57 and '60 RI custom shop strats now, preferring those a bit over the '69 for the neck shapes and pickups. The '69s get that big, clangy Hendrix sound going on the cleans, and have a thicker low end sound, to my ear. Very cool stuff. Here is a pic of my old '69 relic:

I think fender are the same as other companies in the fact that a few rough old dogs slip out of the production line.I have played a few strats that where fucking stiff and lifless and infact my Roadhouse strat i bought from new was the same-but after a while fenders seem to change into great players?Would love to play a realy old strat as i can only dream how great it would feel and play. There are plenty of trendy over priced fender copies out there, but there just copies and wont last the test of time

I'd say spend a few extra bucks and buy a guitar like that in person from a music store. You can check it out first, and also cherry pick if they have more than one in stock or if you have more than one fender dealer in the area.

I've noticed what Fong has, especially on the mexican strats. You can play a dozen and find a couple that are much better than the others, and a couple are really craptacular. The usa stuff has been kinda like that in my experience, except most are of about the same quality and a few are stellar. Just my 2 cents.
