  • Guitar reviews from good old ME....

    I'll keep it short.
For all you shredders out there looking for a new guitar to thrash here are some choices. I have all of these and they all kill.
Budget shredder... Washburn N2. Try to get the early Japanese model. Cheap and very well balanced.
Medium priced shredder... Ibanez Sabers. Any S540 or 540 model, any year, any configuration. They are all good.
Moderate priced shredder... Ibanez RBM1. This is the finest Ibanez guitar ever made (and I have had all of them). You will be blown away by EVERYTHING about this guitar.

John, can you elaborate on the Reb Beach model, why it is so good? A buddy of mine has the Voyager which was the precurssor to the RBM. I've played it and it is a pretty cool guitar. But I'm wondering what makes the RBM that much better.

      Solid Mohagony body
Bolivian Rosewood fretboard (very tight grain)
Chunky neck.. not typical Ibanez. It is more like a Suhr profile. Maybe that is why Reb plays Suhr guitars now
Low pro trem... the best trem ever made.
Severely angled headstock. This increases the tension on the strings just enought to realy make a difference.
The trem is set up like a Steinberger. It is hanging off of the back of the guitar. Perfect for all kinds of whammy tricks. ESPECIALLY warbles!!!
S/S/H config and electronics are perfectly placed for shredding. Coil tap adds versatility. Pickup selector switch is in the perfect location,
      Upper fret access is outstanding.
Fit and finish is the best I have ever seen from Ibanez or almost anybody else for that matter.
      Fret work is impeccable
Hardware is as good as hardware deserves to be.
      Even the case is beautiful.
      Playability??
There is literally no genre of music or trick that you can't pull off if you have the chops. It is a shredders dream.
