    The (wider) binding is there, it just gets painted over. Some years they've removed the paint from the binding completely, others...they didn't. Not sure of the reasoning behind it actually. I think this particular thing is common, But this guitar is still a red flag to me.

      I have a similar one..1972ish.....mine has regular stamp in the back of head, no brass plate.

        If you like almost no frets at all, it might be worth picking up. I had a '73 since new and hardly ever played it. It was a sunburst and it had 5 pieces that made up the maple cap! Talking about saving wood! Ha!
