• Seagull (Godin) guitars

I heard these guitars are suppose to be nice guitars. I have my eye on a Takamine EF341SC (though someone here recommended a DLX w/Cool Tube).
How are the Seagull guitars and would there be an equivalent to the Takamine? In the future I'll be looking at spending $1000-$1200 on something.
I've never tried one, but heard good word about it.

I've got one of the cheaper ones, an S12 that's about 11 years old now, and I love it to death. Solid spruce top, wild cherry back and sides, it sounds like an absolute cannon. No as jangly as most 12-strings, it has amazing bass response. Plays great, too, and the wild cherry is actually really cool looking, with all the swirly grain.

I have seen two Seagulls in pawnshops and both did not stand the test of time. Maybe it was the weather in the southwest but both guitar necks where twisted and the wood was begining to crack.

I have a Simon and Patrick 12 string - it's basically a seagull without the small narrow headstock. Sounds and plays great.

Keith - you could take a $9,000 Taylor and abuse it to that point. I think seagulls and S&Ps are amazing values and are better guitars than anything under a grand new, and hold their own even with more expensive guitars.

Just my opinion.

I have a Seagull S6 cedar. Great looking, feeling, and sounding guitar. And it was less than 400 bucks.

The higher end ones sound great, and have gorgeous appointments. Play one if you can.

They're handmade in Canada. Great deal.

I'm another fan of Seagulls. I don't own one, but I've considered it many times. They just seem to sing more than most acoustics I can afford, and the necks are great. I think the low price is why you see so many beat-up ones. If I ever do get an acoustic, it will probably be a Seagull.

Thing is that one of the guitars looked brand new. It even had the Made in Canada hang tag. It was a beautiful guitar and I was going to buy it but the neck was very badly warped. I have also owned two Godin G-Series and had the same problem with the necks warping.

Weird, my 12 string has a perfect neck, and 12 string acoustics are under a LOT of stress, especially if you tune to standard.

If they were new guitars, I'd be concerned too. All that I've seen new and used though played and sounded great.

I have a Seagull as well. It used to be my dads, now it's in my collection. They are wonderful sounding guitars.
Very comfortable to play and i have had zero issues with it since i've had it. I'm not sure about comparisons to Takamines because i only have a 12 string Tak.
Try one out Don, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at what you get for the money.

Seagull's are good accoustic that need major set ups.
Once you get past that, you can have an great accoustic for few bucks.
