I have an RG1550. It's one of the best guitars i've ever played. I will never part with it.

      That's a good point pro-fusion.
Does anyone know when they moved production to Korea?

        Re: Ibanez...how are they?

They didn't move production to Korea en masse, they have been building guitars in both places for a while now. You can tell where a late 80's onward Ibanez was built from the serial number: if it starts with F it was made in Fuji Gen-Gaki in Japan, if it starts with C, S or W it was made in Korea by subcontractors (at either Cort, Samick, or World, respectively).

          Re: Ibanez...how are they?

I still have my 93 ibanez rg 470 but its in pieces at the moment. About 5 years ago, i decided to strip the paint and refinish it but it sucked so I had a friend at work do it and it was even worse. Right now the body is half paint, half wood and the neck resides comfortably on a shelf. Someday ill put that bad boy back together. It was one of the best guitars ive ever played.

Atleast once a week, i scour ebay for an ibanez rg. If I find a 550 or above thats within my budget, ill buy it in a heartbeat. Ive been an ibanez fan from day one and nothing has changed. SMOKING guitars IMO

I have a 2000 RG570 with the All Access Neck Joint (AANG) and Edge trem that never goes out of tune. It's a killer guitar and you can get them pretty cheap. I got mine used for $350 shipped w/ a hard case and Dimarzio PAF Pro & Super Distortion. Had to do a bit of setup on it but now it's my favorite shredder. Check out this auction for some really nice pics of a guitar that looks just like mine except for the PUs.

Im not the biggest fan of the RG series, but I love the S series. I had a 89? green S540 with Maple neck... that thing was AWESOME. i still have no idea why I sold it. I later picked up another S540 with rosewood, but it just wasnt the same.

              /my 2 cents.

Isn't that one of the europe-only models? I too had a europe only-model, a little different than yours though. Great guitar, I kind of regret selling it. Those Prestige necks really feel smooth.

Here's the one I had. Swap the knobs and pickups for white ones and you have a poor man's Jem

I just got this J-Custom RG-8670, and it doesn't get much better than this in a bolt on shredder.

I had a Jem. Ever since then I have not liked Ibanez guitars. I don't like the tone and I don't like the quality. They sound like buzz saw and feel like toys. I think the parts are cheap. The necks are too thin for me. I can't anchor enough to get vibratos. When I vibrato hard the bridge tremelo system does not have enough tension and gives - taking away the effect of the vibrato - and I tightened the springs all the way. And I don't like Dimarzio pups - they sound thin and nasal to me.

Having said that I have seen this guitar out there and if I were to by an Ibanez this would be the one. This one looks well made to me. I know it is heavy and I feel more comfortable when I hear that because it sounds like it is built with quality and probably has good tone and sustain. The one thing I have liked about Ibanez guitars is the access to the upper frets. It is fantastic for a bolt on. And they are great looking guitars also.

I am wondering is this neck profile similar to more of a "normal" profile like a Charvel or Fender or is it thinner like a Wizard neck? If this one had more of a normal neck I would be very tempted to get one of these because they look killer.

The new RGA 121 is an awesome guitar and I highly recommend one if you're looking for a fixed bridge super strat!

                      Re: Ibanez...how are they?

I think the J Customs use something called a Prestige Custom Carve or something like that for a neck shape. I'd almost bet that its not near as thin as the wizard necks.

The 520QS is the best bargain going. Get 'em while they're cheap!
