The 520QS is the best bargain going. Get 'em while they're cheap!

Im having trouble locating this model on places like the ibanez website and musicians friend. Could you be more specific or maybe provide a link to one? Thanks in advance

They no longer make that specific model. You can usually find it used in the $300 ballpark.

Re: Ibanez...how are they?

It was basically the same as a 570, but with a mahogany body and a wafer thin quilted sappelle top. So, you get the best of the RG's with the great trem, the great neck, and a mohagany body as well. I know a few guys who stripped them and left them natural, and they were fantastic looking that way as well. Just a great quality Japanese axe.

Yep. Keep your eye on the 'bay. You'll find one. If you don't want to wait, Chris' Guitars has a nice-looking one for sale HERE, but he wants $500 for it.

I had LGM replace the dots in the maple board of my 550 with all different colored plastic, and I really like the look. Black gets boring!

Well, just so you know , I sold the neck through J Custom because my '90 Soloist Pro was just as good. It's as good or better than almost every guitar I've played in my 35 years of playing, honestly. I'm also thisclose to trading the violet 8670 for a Yamaha SA2200 that's on Jemsite now. I'm gassing for a high quality non-Gibson 335/355 and that Yamaha is just too nice. The absolute best Ibanez I have is '78 FA-100, which is a Gibson ES-175 copy. I went through 3 Gibsons before I got the Ibanez, and it totally owns them. That one (and the Soloist Pro) are the only keepers I have.

hey Chris(cuthroat) that must have been a job striping the paint off. its like 1/4" thick plastic coating, well 1/8" at least

Re: Ibanez...how are they?

My first real guitar was my 1987 RG 560 with a 550 maple neck.
Hate pickguards but had to have a maple board.
Took 6 months to get it, but I still have it to this day.
Almost parted with it a few times, but in the end I could never let it go.
She's in great shape for a 19 year old guitar, but she is a working mans guitar and has only let me down once when the trem socket broke.

Re: Ibanez...how are they?

A friend of mine on Jemsite offered me a new pickguard for my 550 routed for 3 single coils, and I'm really tempted to make go for it and make her a real Super Strat! 550's are great guitars.

For serial identification on ibanez, check out ibanezrules.com. Heres a direct link to the dating page:

Im looking at my neck right now and its F309033. The F stands for "Fugijen" which is the factory and the first 3 stands for the year...in my case, 1993. The 09033 means it was the 9,033rd guitar made at that factory in 1993. That link above explains it.

As far as stripping my paint off, yeah...it took me a while. It sat in my dad's workshop for a few months and I just worked on it whenever i went over there, mainly on the weekends. He's got every piece of equipment you can think of. I mainly used a sander and then hand sanded the pockets and shyt like that. When I repainted it, I just used krylon I believe and it turned out ok I guess but it had bubbles, runs, and all that. When My bud repainted it, he used ceramic paint and it was horrible. One of these days, im just gonna restrip it back to bare wood and just maybe stain it. The body and neck are still in excellent shape. Just gotta find the damn bridge. It has to be sitting in my parents house somewhere
