Here’s a brief review for my latest acquisition, an Ibanez RG2120-KKB. Pics first, words later:
The front:
The back:
The headstock:
Specs: Mahogany body with Flame Koa top, direct mount pickups (DiMarzio Tone Zone/Air Norton), 5-way slide switch, master volume, master tone, AANJ, “Ultra” Prestige neck, which is quite thick but amazingly comfortable, with Rosewood board and off-center Abalone dots. The “Ibanez” headstock logo is intensely colorful and variegated MOP (lots of pink and green), but I couldn’t get that to show up in the photos (sorry).
I can find very little information about these, but from what I have found, I understand that these were a limited run, made for the Japan market only, that they were made for 2 years, and that 20-30 were made each of those years. If you have more/different info, I'd love to learn more.
It plays very well and sounds fantastic. After years of being anti-Ibanez (not really sure why), I finally bought a JEM 7VWH last year after being floored by what Vai does with one, and I grew to love it so much that I ended up selling my beautiful Archtop Soloist Pro and Violin Brown SL2H – I know that sounds traitorous, but I had to admit I never played them anymore! (Damned painted necks!)
I am now up to 3 Ibanezes, and I love ‘em all. Here are the other 2:
