  • MF/GC?

I was on the Guitar Center site the other day and was trying to look at the electric guitar inventory. The only link on the site that would get me anywhere opened up the Musician's Friend site. Maybe I've missed this discussion, but is MF and GC the same?

Yes GC bought out MF a couple of years back. If you go to a GC though they will not order you something from MF you have to order from MF directly.

I wonder if they will price match each other? Jack.

usually the prices are the same, but you don't pay tax at musicians friend.

The only thing that bothers me is GC doesn't carry ESP guitars. Hardly any dealers in my area do so I always haveto order from the internet wich can be risky when ordering a guitar with a figured top.

A few months ago, I saw MF list a close-out on an Ibanez Prestige S1625FB for $699. I walked in GC and saw same guitar on wall for $1099 sale tag. I told them about MF price, he logged on to the website and verified it, and spoke to his manager who approved it. I then complained a little about having to pay tax, and he thru in an SKB Freedom case and I walked out the door at $750.

You have to bring in the MF catalog and they will meet their "own" prices.

Yeah, I price matched a Roc'n'Soc guitar stool while they were on sale 89 bucks or so on MF, while GC had them at 129. They even ordered me the one I wanted, which wasn't in stock and MF had a backorder on, the shorter one.

I have had nothing but good service from MF. I tried to order an item from the Woodwind&Brasswind, AKA Music 123 (same type of situation as MF/GC) and they totally screwed my order. Sent me an empty broken case, without the guitar and then tried to say it was my fault due to asking to have the guitar shipped in the case, LOL. MF has always sent me the right gear and on time. I am only about an hour from the clearance center in KC.

                  Re: MF/GC?

I used to love MF, but they've gone way down hill over last couple of years.

The local GC doesn't have shit. No matter what I go there for I usually get the same response, "we don't have that in stock, but we can get it for you." Ummm... I can get for me too snapperhead!

Neither one has much of a guitar selection. The GC here has a few Gibsons, a few Jacksons (none that I would have), a few BC Rich's, a few Ibanez and a whole wall full of Fenders. Zero selection.

I have found better selections and much better prices on the net anyway.

Got my G-Major at Guitar Center and they price matched it to MF and they also gave me a $50 discount do to the fact that is was a demo model.
                    Damn, I love this Interweb.
