Ibanez JS series: opinions!

Hey guys,

A friend of mine (also big guitarfreak) fell in love with a JS (supposedly 'custom shop) at a local store.

It's all wooden and looked exactly like this he said:

I haven't seen or played it in real life yet, but friday after my first exam I'm gonna go to the store with him to test it out a bit.

Could anyone shed some light onto the model and list some pro's cons or opinions? That would really help. (I hate going into stores while not knowing anything, so they could basically tell me anything and I'd be inclined to believe it = NOT good...)

Are you sure it's not the JS6000OL with the custom inlay on the 12th?


It looks very similar to the JS6:

Aha that'll be it! It's Japanese made eh, interesting, the price they're asking is way over the top (I already suspected as such).

I was planning on talking him out of it anyways, no friend of mine is going to be playing an Ibeenhad, if he does decide to, I'll just have to tear up his friendcontract. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Ward, I bought one(no custom inlay) new when I was 20 or so [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] and it was great.
I paid around $800 back then with HSC.
Mahogany body gives very warm sounding and when I played it on stage with very high volume with a band, it sounded even better.
I had other JSs but they all had Basswood body and trem.
I'd recommend JS6 over any other JSs. Not sure if I will still dig it because of smaller frets and skinny neck and I prefer wider neck with jumbo frets these days.

Played it today. Like I thought, the small frets put me off seriously and the neck is too skinny indeed.

My hands just molded into Soloistnecks and I am now forever doomed! [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I did put those things aside for my assessment, though, and it was a very nice guitar indeed. He'll probably end up buying it, eventhough I think it's ridiculously overpriced.
