• Wood vs. Metal Resonators

    Ummm, they have different resonatingness?

Do you mean the full-body material or the cone? The full-metal bodied will probably sound a lot like a banjo, whereas a metal cone on a wood body would have a woody banjo tone.

Yeah, like the ones that are completely metal and the ones that are an acoustic with the metal thing.

Wood tends to be warmer, sweeter, and *slightly* less loud (and a hell of a lot less heavy!). An excellent quality cone can pretty much take care of the volume issue, though. Think bluegrass and folk music with a woodbody.

Metal cuts like razor wire and is nasty, brash, and aggressive. A brass National has been known to stop a bullet, too. Think Delta and country blues.

My friend Ralph builds woodbodies in which the tonewoods play a much more important role than the average woodbody. He has a video on his site that you might find interesting.
