RG 20051 Has Landed! Pix!

Just got my RG 20051 today and thought I'd share it with y'all. I got it new from a dealer, so it has all the tags, etc. Here's the new Ibanez "J Craft" case, which is the best case I've ever seen, bar none. I like this better than the G&Gs I've had, and better than the Ibanez UV1000. The fit is supreme, it's very plush inside, with a nice recess so you can leave the bar in, and an accessory compartment with a lid that doesn't require removing the guitar to be opened. Plus, it's tough as nails and relatively small on the outside. I love it!

I haven't had much chance to play it yet. Just lowered the damnable middle pickup to get it out of the way of my sloppy picking and jammed a little Badlands. I was a little worried about liking the pickups, since I can't get swirled replacements, but so far, I'm quite happy with the sound (plenty of sustain, easy pinch harmonics, no noise, lots of variety in the different switch positions). The quality of the guitar appears to be very high. The neck is kickass thin with a nice, satin finish. I love it!

Travis, I don't think this finish is available on anything else. The RG20051 was a limited edition, and as far as I know, it's only available in HSH (but let me know if you do find one - I'm not a fan of middle pickups myself). [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Ibanez did release an RG20061, RG20062 and RG20063, so it looks like they're going to continue the tradition of offering one or more limited editions each year.

wow, amazing and very creative finish. you'll love that guitar for a long time.

Amazing. The extra cool thing about that guitar is it probably plays even better than it looks!

Thanks! Now that I've had a bit of a chance to play it, I am finding that it plays great! It's so easy, it almost feels like cheating (which is cool with me, I need all the help I can get!) [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

The neck is just perfect, IMO. It's thinner than my Jem 7VWH's neck, but thicker than my RG520's neck. It is thin and wide, and feels unfinished and silky smooth, which is just what I like!

Here are the neck specs of the above-mentioned Ibanezes, per JemSite, listed as Guitar/Neck: 1st fret thickness, 12th fret thickness):

RG520/Super Wizard: 17mm, 20mm
RG20051/Prestige: 18mm, 20mm
JEM 7VWH/JEM: 19mm, 21mm

And for the Jackson fans in the audience (i.e., everyone), here are some comparative Jackson neck specs, converted to mm and rounded off - note that the Jackson specs are 3rd fret/12th fret (which is how Jackson releases this data), not 1st fret/12th fret. These were obtained from Jackson literature within the past few years:

DK1: 19mm, 21mm
KV2/KE2/WR1: 20mm, 21mm
SL1/SL2H/RR1/KV2T/SLS/SLATQH: 20mm, 22mm

. . . and for the Warmoth fans:

Warmoth Standard: 20 mm, 22mm
Warmoth Wizard: 19 mm, 21mm

The thinnest neck I know of is the Moses graphite SK-27 thin-line Strat replacement neck, which appears to have kind of a ski jump backshape, with 1st fret/12th fret thicknesses of: 16mm, 23mm.

As far as pickups, I guess it has the Ibanez V8, S1, V7 pickups. I know that those are not as well respected as, e.g., DiMarzios, but to my ear, they sound great. If they hadn't, I was planning to replace them with some white Evolutions and some kinda single coil (HS-3 maybe?), which would've been okay, as I do LOVE white pickups, but at this point, anyway, I'm going to leave the stock pickups in it.
