• bought a new guitar... PRS content, under $500

Bought one of these. PRS SE Custom, maple cap but I think the figure is pretty thin on top of the maple, korean made, set neck, actually plays as well as my '91 custom 24, got it with an actual PRS softcase for $520 plus tax.

Might have to change out the pickups - they sound pretty good, but not sure how feedback resistant they are. I'll find out tomorrow at the gig. Neck is arrow straight, fretwork is awesome, guitar is built REALLY well. It's very hard to tell this thing was made in Korea.

If you like PRS guitars, you really ought to check one out - for around $500, it's quite a deal. Much better in my opinion than the Epi LPs. They had a cherryburst that was still nice, but wasn't as loud acoustically as this one, and the neck wasn't as straight.

      that thing looks amazing!!

      can you post more pics?

I thought all these came with P90 style pickups. now checking their site, I clued in.

what size frets does yours have?

I gotta say, most Korean guitars I've played have been made very well. my Charvel acoustic is Korean and it's insanely well made for the price.

Haven't played a Dean hardtail, just their '79' MLs. Nice guitars for the money for sure. Who knows, maybe they are made in the same factory? The only possible weak link so far are the pickups - they sound ok, but I'll have to see how it does at gig volume. More than likely some zebra duncans are going in there soon.

I did pull the neck pickup out, and it's built the same way as my CU24 - has a 'tongue' that is epoxied in there. I haven't pulled the control plate off to have a closer look, I bet it's not wired as well as my 91 is, but still... for the money, it's a no brainer. When these start showing up used for $350-$400, they will be an AMAZING value.

I've been thinking about snagging a SE SC. The import PRS stuff I have tried at the store has been pretty damn good for the price point.

I had 2 of them Pete. I agree. Great bang for the buck providing you like a wide/fat neck profile. Also, the tuners aren't the greatest. I replaced mine with locking Sperzels.

Tuners aren't too bad, but locking would be cooler for sure. If I really dig it, I'll probably take the sandpaper to the neck and flatten the profile a bit and then oil her up.

Sorry for the highjack, but has anyone tried out the new SE Singlecut yet? I´ve been searching for something that´s LP-styled for a while, and it looks pretty interesting.
