To my knowledge, ALS and LS = LP Standard copy, ALC and LC = LP Custom copy. Or at least that's the case here in Europe.
I don't know about the Tokai situation in the US but here in europe we have several LP Custom copies in various prices.The cheaper ones are made in Korea, and they are mostly alder, agathis and all other "non-LP" woods. LC-80 is the first model here with proper woods; magohany neck and body. The only thing I don't like even in the higher end Custom copies is the rosewood fingerboar. A Custom needs that ebony imo. Jack -
Actually, I'm about to embark on a Tokai binge
After playing a shit load of Les Pauls and then a guys 2005 LS80 that SMOKED all the Gibsons, I'm in....the workmanship is superb, they play and sound awesome.
For reference - the model #'s all coincide with price x1000 yen. So, the LS80 is 80,000 yen. You can get one shipped to your door from Ishibashi in Japan for about $650
Quality wise - the LS80 is on par with any current produced Gibson Les Paul Standard. the LS120 is somewhere between Standar and Gibson Custom Shop quality, and the LS150 that I'm getting is as nice if not nicer than the current crop of Gibson Historic Reissues. The top of the line LS320 simply blows away ANYTHING Gibson is making. The funny thing is that Gibson just announced the "upgrades" to the Historic line at NAMM - this in their $3000 on up guitars, and Tokai has been doing the same thing for years for peanuts....this includes nitro finishes, long neck tenon joints top of the line U.S electronics..
Here's my email I got on Friday:
===ISHIBASHI WEB SHOP===
Dear Steve,
Thank you for your e-mail. This is Hiroaki from Ishibashi WEB SHOP.
Shipping fee for one guitar w/soft case to U.S.A. is 14,000Yen.
Please let me know which models and colors you are interested in.
Then I will inform you if your interests are available in the maker.
I hope to hear from you soon.
If you have question, please feel free to ask me.
Thank you very much!
It's sooooo hard to beat....for $1100 you can get total Gibson Custom Shop quality delivered to your door....the LS150 is all solid, the LS80F and the LS125F are all solid with a maple veneer on top - not a 3/4" thick flame maple cap like the LS150....
