• Which one would you vote off?

I like them all, but I may need to get rid of one. Which would you choose?
The strat is an american deluxe, the nagel has a custom in the bridge and is a relabeled GMW, the camo has an 81 in the bridge, the Explorer is a stock gibby, and the RR is a 1984 Custom.

I like Rock/Metal and blues and use a JCM800 single channel.

I like:
tobacco bursts
hums in the bridge, singles in the neck
strat shapes
chrome HW, black second
22 + frets
beaters

no preference on:
bolt on/set neck
maple, rosewood, ebony
bridge type, but may lean toward non-floyds
inlay type as long as it isn't plasticky

Tough call as those are all going to be a bit different tonally but I'd ditch the Dinky.

Re: Which one would you vote off?

The dinky's the least flexible and ironically in a tie with the Rhoads and Strat for favorite to play

I have had the strat for 2 days, but this one is the one I've worked up to

I had the elite strat LPC has now, two sunburst mexi strats, and decided I needed a Sunburst/maple/passive/locking tuner traditional tremmed american strat with med/jumbo frets. There it is!

I haven't totally warmed up to the Nagel as a player, but am emotionally attached to that 80s lady.

The Explorer is a love/hate thing. Just when I think it's because of the scale difference and akward wing, I rediscover the high output pickups and flexibility of the neck pickup. I love the finish and the shape too. My first decent guitar was an ibanez Phil Collin destroyer bolt on too.

Argh!!

I need an LP and a Tele too!

Yup, I am glad you got it and I didn't chop it up to make an american standard out of it. Win/Win, thanks bro!

Voted for the Nagel.
Of the lot it's probably the one with the least resale.
I think that Cammo is awesome and can't see it going to a possible non JCFer, so keep it.

that was exactly my experience. sounded way better when i put the custom in, but i think the short scale didn't match well with me. not sure if it matters, but it's really a moser guitar, not a gmw. that jackson logo was also done by a pro; that's silkscreened on. you can tell b/c there's no waterslide halo around it. LOVED that graphic, and per dan lawrence, he's never done another in that pose.

PS: i voted explorer.

That was pretty much my experience with the Moser / GMW / fake Jackson / (whatever it is ) as well. Plays fine, sounds fine, has a really nice neck, and that's one of the best graphics that I've ever owned, but I just didn't bond with it and I don't really know why. Thought that was weird at the time, still do.

Re: Which one would you vote off?

Here's a brain twister - what about a tobacco burst gibson '76 V to replace the RR and Explorer?

The only issue left is the fact I am not partial to short scales and I like the look of an explorer (though in my old age I am less nostalgiac )

I never realized the nagel was short scale, but that explains the odd feeling that something was 'unusual' as a player. Maybe by understanding that, I can get over it.

I love the look and sound of everything Gibson, but feel funny with every one I play. I blame it on the scale, when I am in the mood to put up with it, it is cool. When I want to pose and let go like a wanna be Jimi or SRV, nothing short scale feels right. Does that make sense? I am not a good enough player to have this opinion, but that's how I feel.

Personally I wouldn't kick the RR out. I still have the RR Custom I bought in '85 and in my experience those old RRs are unique in feel and tone. You'd miss that one.

There is a solution to the "I like Gibson shapes but not short scales", give in to the dark side ... you know you want to.
