why do some of them have mtching sunburst headstocks and others plain black? i've fallen in love with the idea of getting one with a matching headstock but don't know if i can find one easily or whether the current thing is the black headstock...

I'm pretty sure if you want a matching headstock, you need to find a V Select. Not sure they're making them anymore, but they turn up time to time on ebay.
They're imported, but like the 79 series, they're killer guitars for the money. -
