    You have to file a police report and then involve them at the store where the guitar is found (if it is found) BEFORE letting the store know the story. Scenario #3 is what will happen otherwise. These places are not compensated for stolen goods that they have purchased so they will rarely cooperate.
    Frequently, if they suspect something is stolen, they will wait several weeks/months before they put it out for sale or will move it on the "underground".
    My guess is you'll never see that axe again if it made it to a pawn shop. Happened to me back in the 80's...a miserable feeling. I still get pissed when I think about it.

      I guess what I meant by "you know what to do" is to tell me. I know that if I go in there and tell them they have my stolen guitar, it wouldn't be very helpful. If I do find it in a pawn shop or any other used guitar store, I will tell the police I found it (since I have already filed the report), then they would get involved.
