Nice, and congrats! I just got a ruby red DC400 myself, and have a 727 on order. They are nice guitars, for sure. It might be nice if a "Show us your Carvins" thread majically appreared...

Kewl! I've been toying with getting a custom Carvin neck thru. They have a 25" scale length like PRS's. I can guess what the 3 way and the 4 pots do, but what are the 3 mini switches for?

Yea, Carvins have always been known for the controls. Home theater connections, now with NASA and the Pluto project. Give me 1 Vol. and a 3 or 5 way switch. That's all!
But again, nice Geetar!

Re: My new Carvin DC400 arrived today!

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I really like this guitar, the oiled neck is heaven, I highly recomend it.

I noticed that one of the 12th position side dots seems to have chipped. It is missing a very tiny peice, but I dont care. I also noticed that the active electronics hum alot, so I will be calling Carvin about this today. Hopefully I dont have to send it back or something.

The three switches are actually kinda usefull. The top two control coil taps, and the bottom is a phase switch. I can get alot of cool tones from this thing.

The 4 knobs are Master volume, master tone, bass, and treble. The 3 switches are two single coil switches, and an Active on/off on my DC400.

Re: My new Carvin DC400 arrived today!

Have any of you Carvin switchoholics found a good use for the out of phase sound? Seems like it just puts the guitar into "AM Radio" mode.

I wonder what it would take to change that switch to do something like select between the two sides of the bridge hummer when in split mode?

When I had my DC400, whenever I used both pups on together, I used the phase switch (well, that's the only way you can use the phase switch anyway ) It sounded really nice, especially playing clean.

I love my DC400 it is a smooth playing guitar but I agree it does have to many knobs and switches, I keep getting confused and end up changing the TV channel

I didn't get a phase switch on my 400, because of the active tone controls. I ordered my 727 with a 1 tone, 1 vol, and a 3 way

Nice guitar, congrats!! I love the quilt. I've always been a big carvin fan, you are going to love it.

For the other people wondering about the switches it's already been posted so I won't rehash but just fyi when you order a carvin you can specify which controls you want and which you don't. You used to be able get different switch types as well but I don't know if you still can.

Another really cool thing about Carvin is you can supply them with a pic of what you want the top to look like. I dont know if any other builders do this, but I think its pretty cool, especailly considering that Carvin isnt a true custom shop.
