      Re: Schecter Guitars

Actually from what Jacksonite said (maybe I misunderstood) the 30th Anniversary models are made in the USA. Aside from that and the custom shop models all their other guitars are made outside the USA. Korea I believe. Still they are probably some of the nicest Korean made guitars I've played.

          Re: Schecter Guitars

Very few guitar shops I know of sell them. Drumcityguitarland.com is one. They have some really nice schecter customs and you can order a custom through them as well. I dunno how the prices compare with Jackson but I've been eyeing a really sweet flame koa seven string that they have in stock.

            Re: Schecter Guitars

They have a custom shop in Burbank California, that will pretty much make anything you want, as long as its not a gibson shape... I asked for a singlecut and they told me no, real quick.
they start about 1600 list for a basic strat, and the sky is the limit from there.
It is my understanding that the 30th aniversary models are USA made, but I wont know until I get the 2 C1s that I orderd, I have a sneeky feeling that they are just really high end imports, but the ingraved pup covers has me guessing.
They are gonna typacally be a little less money than Jackson, but we arent really comparing apples to apples in most cases. Schecter is aimed the market that would buy a DK2 or SL3. and they are very comparible there, and cost less than the SL3 and have more features, like real abalone binding and inlays
            I am excited about these.
what really has me pumped is thier neck through basses, the look really sweet and they have some that have bubinga and walnut.. and are less than a grand, Full Retail

Nick when i get around to it, i'll see exactly what I want for my custom in the future, spec wise, and ask for you to get a quote..

So since they dont do anything from other companies, what about stuff like Duncans and floyds? Are those still available? and you said 1600 list for a basic strat, does that mean a custom shape would make that around +500 or so, then each add-on like inlays will be another 300 and such like most custom shops?

                Re: Schecter Guitars

well they said it isnt as cost intensive from what I can tell as some other shops, you still pay a premium for the custom shop to hand build you a guitar. Also, if you want a custom shape, that is where you pay the premium, as the dont have templates and will have to make one for you, wich is more labor intensive than if they build you a custom C1... It just costs more to build. But I am supposed to be getting some paperwork from them I will talk to you on MSN once I get the particulars.

I'm still loving that Flame Koa/Purpleheart 007 that Jason has. Schecters custom shop prices sound pretty competitive..hrm. Then again if I did get one I'd rather go through someone in the JCF (not that Jason is a bad guy). But right now I can't afford anything so its a nonissue.

You are 100% correct about not comparing apples to apples.

The Jackson X, MG, and Pro Series models (which include the DK2 and SL3) are made in Japan, not Korea.

Actually, the Jackson guitars are an incredible value when you see that our competition has their Korean made models priced similarly our Japanese made models.

Also keep in mind that our Japan factory has been building ONLY Jackson and Charvel stuff since 1985, when Mike Shannon, Tim Wilson, and the gang went over to teach them how it's done. Can any other companies say that?? NOPE!

Not in any way am I argueing with that point... totally different type of guitars. I am only saying same buyer that would buy a DK2 or SL3.

All very true, but the Schecters and ESP's have a bling factor the Jacksons don't. I'm not saying Jacksons need any bling, they don't, but I do think if the MG series for example had like abalone binding and inlays and crap like that, the price would go up somewhat. But regardless of quality I'd take a japanese anything over a korean anything pretty much any day. The japanese guitars are just made better. At least in my experience. I do have to say that those Schecters are nice though, I've never played a bad one. More than I can say for ESPEE or Ibanez (J Customs and Customs excepted, those are killer).

                                Re: Schecter Guitars

yeah, Schecter is kinda the exception to the rule on the Korean thing. But the Abalone Binding , and the tone pros bridge put them in a seperate market. They are way better than almost any Korean guitar, due to the fact that they have the higher quality features, but I dont think the Korean luthiers are as a whole nearly as good as the Japanese Luthiers, specially the ones that were trained buy Shannon and the gang...
But all that aside, its a great guitar for the money, if you are looking in that price range for a guitar.
I mean the Custom Shop stuff is gonna be like anyother custom shop as far as price goes. I think the only thing it will have on the Jackson shop, is gonna be wait time, but I am sure that there is a very good reason for that, Demand.
I mean I just dont see Schecter USA puting out the numbers that Jackson does, it just aint gonna happen.
