sadly, it's a pay site, but $5 gets you access for a month.

I have some online. Just none of the NJ stuff.

If you really want it, you might want to post a request over at the MCS board. There's a couple of guys there that have gigs of catalogues. http://mcs.acidpit.org/

well, basically what i wanna know is this...

when i was 14-15, i got my first good electric; a midnight blue nj warlock. it had the original 6 in line headstock with the mop logo overlay, 2 hum, vtrem setup. wish i still had it for sentimental reasons and also, i always loved that headstock and you just don't see it often.

while perusing ebay, i found (and won) an 85 warlock, but it's black and has a kahler. the back of the neck is also painted, while mine wasn't.

while i was looking on the site i linked, i noticed that they didn't have the 84 nj catalog; my best guess is that mine was an 84 because of the vtrem and the unpainted neck.

in all of that catalogs i've seen, none of them show midnight blue as a factory color, which is kinda weird. while i got the guitar used when i was a kid, it couldn't have been more than a year old. i kinda doubt that someone would have bought a brand new nj warlock, refinned it and traded it in on something else at the music store all within a year, ya know?

so basically, i want to see if i can get a color sample of the midnight blue (the warlock i scored will definitely need a refin) and i guess i also wanted to know what the body wood was back then. i was interested to learn that the 85 nj bodies were maple. crazy, eh?

so anyway, yeah. that's my quest. thanks for the links so far, it's too bad that the 84 nj catalog is such a small picture. my next step is the moser board.

            thanks again!

Sully, I'm not surprised the bodies were maple. That was going to be my guess, but I didn't want to mislead you. In my conversations with Bernie Sr (RIP), he told me he liked maple for overseas made guitars because many factories didn't season their wood properly at that time. Maple tended to shift/shrink less than other woods, so the finishes would look good for years. That is not really an issue today, due to many factories in Asia learning about modern manufacturing techniques.

The early neck-through guitars, like this Eagle were Maple with Mahogany wings.

Question...was your Warlock neck-through, and did it have a serial number?

nah, it was a bolt on. it had a serial #, but i sold it when i was 15 or 16, so i have no idea what it would have been.

well, it's here and the body is certainly maple. what really surprised me is that the neck is mahogany. the guitar must have taken a hit to the headstock or something; i noticed that the fretboard is cracked away from the neck, which i'll have to fix. i sanded the paint away (was gonna do that anyway) to reveal mahogany sitting underneath. i guess it was to darken up the maple body.

this one's gonna be a tech thread, for sure.

COOL BEANS Sully, yeah BCRich imports are odd. especially the older neckthrus, it seems like they didnt stick to one formula too long as far as woods used. also dont go by the catalogs as far as colors offered, i know ive seen alot of oddball colors on older NJs that were original & i dont believe you could order custom color NJs.

thanks jamie! the neck is currently glued and clamped, and i'm thinking about what color to paint the body. the paint is pretty chewed, so i want to reshoot it. i may try to match my old midnight blue one, and i'm not sure if i'll keep the kahler on it or not. i probably will, i guess.

                            thanks for the help, guys!
