  • Schecter C7 Blackjack... Any opinions?

I've been thinking of getting a 7 string. My nephew has a Schecter Spitfire 6 that is awesome for the price they paid. I've been thinking about picking up a C7 Blackjack based on quality of the little one's axe... problem is, nobody stocks the 7 strings around here (well except for Ibanez 7321's). Any opinions on this guitar?

Great guitars but the necks in general are a bit thicker than a typical Jackson, that might or might not bother you

Yeah, I figure it would be thicker than a Jackson or Ibanez. Anybody else? How does it sound? Should I plan on replacing the pickups? Hows the fretwork, etc...

"Great for the price" seems to be the best description of Schecters from my own experience and what others have written. The S-1 Elite I've had for the last year or so has been no let-down. The pups would be the first upgrade for sure, though.

I thought it comes with real Duncans? They seem to have fine fretwork I've played a decent amount of Schecters and haven't seen any issues

            the C7 Black Jack has a JB7 and a 59-7 in it..

I have a couple of C7 Hellraisers on the way if you are interested, its the same guitar, but with EMG actives instead. (707s)

the Blackjack has "multiply" binding where as the Hellraiser has abolone (black cherry) or Black Pearl (Gloss Black)

I can get you the blackjack no problem though.. I should have the Hellraisers here sometime this week, or begining of next. so I could at the very least give you some ideas about the neck..

I'm very interested in how 'thick' the necks are on the hellraisers too.

The S-1 Elite I have has "Duncan Designed" on each pup. The C7 Blackjack could be completely different, though. The Schecter website should list specs for each model.

I've got a 007 Elite (the H/S version), and I love the neck on it. I changed the pups to a Duncan Custom and DiMarzio Blaze single, and I couldn't be happier. The finish and fretwork are great. I've heard nothing but good things about all the other Schecters.

As far as I know, all Schecter Blackjacks come w/ real Duncans (typically JB/'59). If you get one w/ a fancier finish for a similar price as a BJ, then it will likely have the Duncan Designed (import) PUs. However, some of the nicer models also come w/ Duncans by default. But they are priced above the Blackjacks.
