  • LP v. Explorer

Alright, sometime soon, I hope to be getting a new guitar, and there are 2 guitars I've settled on....maybe 3. I'm willing to spend no more than about $900. An Edwards JS model, a Gibson Explorer, or if by some stroke of luck, I could score an ESP MX explorer for that price. Anyways, it's either down to the LP or the '76 Explorer. I'll probably have both sometime in the future, but I just wanna get some feedback on which you guys prefer. My question is about the Edwards, I've heard very good things about the LP's, but can someone who owns one, or have played one, tell me about it? Quality, feel, sound, etc. Then w/ the Explorer I basically know everything about it so. I mean I like to play stuff in standard, but I like to also go down as far as C, so my style drastically changes alot.

I personally would ALWAYS buy Gibson, rather than a copy of a Gibson. so, I would do the Explorer if in your shoes.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

I agree a Gibson is a Gibson, Les Paul is bluesy Rock, Explorer is a Great Rhythm Lead........ As long as you have heavier strings & a good fixed bridge C slack shouldn't a problem.......

Well w/ the Gibson, I understand the high-class of it, but I've heard good things about the high-end Edwards LP's, and with those specs for the price, I'm really GASsing. I'm not concerned with the sound at all, I know a good Lp copy w/ pickups like that, could easy get good rhytm and lead. But then again, I'm tempted towards the Explorer too. The only thing about the Explorer would be that I'd need to change the pickups to something w/ more output. Anyways, anyone here have any experience w/ the Edwards LP's?

If you like the Explorer, a better alternative would be a Hamer USA Standard Mahogany, much better guitar than the Gibson. Jack.

              Re: LP v. Explorer

I had a Gibson Explorer back in the early 90's that was a great rhythm machine - a nice warm sound, but not very articulate. That guitar was great, but I wanted a USA King V more...

Hamers can be expensive, but not always. a used Standard Mahogany usually go between $800-1000 used. Jack.

A used Gibson LP Standard on EBAY sometimes goes for $1k. The black ones. I bought a 1998 for that much.

I've owned both Les Paul and 76 Explorer I still own the Les Paul. Buy used and you'll always will be able to get your money back+ on a Gibson. A copy will always just be a copy.
