Re: LP v. Explorer

Okay guys, I completely understand your "It's a copy" thing, but I really don't care what the hell brand of a guitar it is, if it is built with good quality, feels good, and sounds good. I probably won't be selling this next guitar for sometime now. I'm not one of those "Brand whores", and I buy the guitar for what it really is, then just the name of it, but I understand what you guys are saying, that it won't have as much resale value. Anyways, I'll see how it turns out, as I have a possible buyer for my KV.

Re: LP v. Explorer

I'd say it might even go beyond the brand name. Gibson uses all sorts of different neck construction in different Les Pauls (i.e. difference between a Classic or Historic, etc.) so the similarities between a Les Paul copy and a Les Paul may just be superficial.

It's not so much a question of brand as it is quality. There are just so damn many LP knock-offs of poor quality. But, as you said, you don't care about the name if the quality is good, so I see no problem with the way you're going

Re: LP v. Explorer

Les Paul = better resale and more comfortable to most people.

However real vs copy - I'd take the real Explorer over a copy LP for resale and guaranteed level of quality of parts/pickups/tuners.

Sound like you're a metal person and you're gonna change the pickups on an LP. The explorer's 500t is pretty meaty but leans to mud for some people's taste I don't know why you would necessarily HAVE to change them out for metal.

I'd also go with an Explorer over an import LP copy but with a budget near $1k you're getting close to the range where you can pick up a used entry-level boutiqe LP-ish guitar and some of those will blow the doors off the real thing.

funny, I've got a MIJ KV now, and getting rid of it for possibly and explorer haha. Sorry but I don't dig the Hamer explorers, aren't they really expensive?

What didn`t you like about the Hamer USA Standards(explorer type)? I think Hamers are top notch bro, if you haven`t played a Standard, give one a whirl first. Jack.

Is there any reason why you are limiting your choices to these few? Just curious more than anything - I didn't know if it was a shape thing or a material thing.

What do you mean few? I've come to the decision that I'd like a LP custom/standard/classic type guitar, or an ESP/Gibson explorer.

Gibson Explorer would be my choice. I love them though so I am biased.

Sounds to me like you already decided on the Edwards so just go out and get one.

Bingo, but anyways, thanks for you guys response, an Explorer will be my next guitar, I'm almost certain it will be, at least I know that the Explorer is a guitar that's worth it, so I don't have to put too much thought into getting it.

I'd take an explorer over a les paul
The shape is more "METAL" and with some EMG's it rocks
I like explorers a lot, Gibsons ,ESP's and LTD's they are all cool
I'm pretty sure that my next guitar will be an explorer, not sure which one but definitely an explorer

I find myself in a constant struggle about this. My LP's don't look "METAL" enough, but they frequently kick ass over my "METAL" guitars. Zakk should re-think using LP's.
