Re: It\'s time for a Les Paul. Experts help needed!!!!!

Well, maybe that's why I don't have a problem with them, i'm a vocalist that plays mostly rhythm, so i'm not to concerned with the upper register, and since I've switched over to EB 11-54 strings, tuning hasn't been a problem.
I did replace the pickups so both have a gibson 496 in the necks and Dimarzio Tone Zones in the bridge. Personally I don't mind the weight.

Let me take a few guesses why you feel its time for a Les Paul.
1. Your tired of playing guitars that have excellent upper fret access.
2. Your tired of playing guitars that are comfortable to play for extended amounts of time.
3. Your looking for a guitar that will snap its headstock off with the slightest bump.
4. Comfort bevels just don't do anything for you. You prefer having a binding digging into your forearm.
5. Everybody knows that Gibson vintage tuners are excellent.

Did I get it??

Well, you forgot to add the best reason...the best tone in the world.

I love bolt on shredders and the such. However, nothing sounds like a Paul, period.

Now back to the topic at hand...

I think its almost impossible to choose a LP by suggestions. LP's vary greatly even within the same model. Weight and neck profile seem to be all over the place. I've played many LP's and I gotta say that they were all different. My favorite was probably a black 1993 Les Paul Standard although it was a super heavy mutha.
My personal favorites are:
Ace Frehely LPC
Frampton LPC. Especially the triple pickup black beauty
I really like that Gary Moore LP
Jimmy Page LPC with that cool switch under the pickguard.
and my favorite of all is the LP that Aldo Nova played.
I bet those little LP Juniors are a blast to play. I saw Greenday and Billy Joe looked like he was having fun playing that little LP.

Correct on all counts!

Seriously though

1 - I'm not a big lead player, and even if I am playing up there, I don't wrap my thumb around the back of the neck anyway. I have a few other LP type guitars, and they don't bother me.

2 - Again, I have a few LP type guitars that I play all the time, and they are fine.

3 - You certainly have a point there.

4 - Yes, I love having a sore arm.

5 - I would probably put Grovers on it. I don't give a shit about defacing a Les Paul. They should smarten up and put real tuners on it to begin with.
Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

I love Juniors and Specials. I love Pauls with p-90s in general. Juniors are pure rock and roll macines...they scream.

I could see myself playing a LP Junior with P90's. They are cool guitars.

What does the switch under the pickguard on a Page LP do?

Pickup splitting and phase changes IIRC.

OH, I thought that's what the push/pull pots where for?

Different model. the Current page uses the push pulls. I think the older ones used the switch. The switch is actually more accurate to what he had back in 69.

Hey guys, the tuners on ALL current Gibsons are made by Grover...this is from a Gibson rep himself. I don't think the vintage style tuners are bad, I just like the Rotomatics better.

I wouldn't own a Gibson.

Are you sure? As of 2005 they were still Gotoh.
