  • Ibanez Hollow body guitars?

Anyone try one of the lower end of Ibanez's hollow body line up?
    In particulat the AF75?
I've got a 200buck credit for Musician's friend and I'm looking for a hollow body. I love my Ibanez Electrics but they are all the Prestige or USA line so I'm a bit worried about getting a POS.
    Thanks

Ummm, try posting this question in the guitars by other manfacturers section. You may do better there.

Or, I am sure an admin will move it.

I have played a couple of these lower priced hollow body Ibanez guitars breifly at the store. They were decent, but nothing to shout about.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

I haven't tried the AF75, but I have the AF85 and it's a seriously nice guitar for the money. Excellent fit and finish, suprisingly decent fretwork and the stock pickups even sound pretty good.

I have played both Epiphone and Ibanez hollow bodies. They are both nice. I actually like the Epi's a little better.

Thanks guys. I just ordered a blem for$290. I don't expect it to sound like a Gibson custom but I hope it works OK. It's my first hollow body.

chrisguitars.com has one that somebody modded with EMG's. The 81/85 combo.
Woulden't that be overpowering on a hollowbody?

My old guitar teacher had EMGs in a hollowbody Gibson and they sounded great for jazz. Very even sounding with nice string seperation on that instrument. You just have to turn the amp down to compensate for the additional output of the pickups, and you can get a pretty killer jazz tone. A solid state amp helps too. I think they can work great, though it may seem a bit odd, I agree.

My friend, who has been in a jazz band forever, says Ibanez models blow away anything by Gibson. But you have to get an older model, especially anything from the 1980s. He's got a JP-20, and he says it will blow away the Gibsons post-1965.

Well it showed up yesterday. Pretty nice. I found the blem. It's got a crack between the pickup ring mounting screws from neck to bridge pickup. Not too bad. The pickups SUK! so I put in a set of Gibson PUs from my Les Paul, better. Let me make one note do not, DO NOOOOOOOOOT attempt to change the pickups in a hollow. I had to have Desiree reach her hand al the way from the pickup hole to the back of the guitar to reinstall the knobs. It took forever and really sucked.
