  • Gibson Trivia Question...

Ok Gibson gurus...here's a trivia question that I thought of, and I want to see who gets it first.

In what year was the Gibson Les Paul solidbody guitar PROTOTYPED? (not manufactured/marketed)

    A. 1948

    B. 1950

    C. 1951

I'm no guru, but I'm guessing 1950 figuring that it took about 2 years to production back then.

I thought it was in 48 when Les had that log he made?

        A. 1948
It was the log guitar and they weren't interested and he was shown the door. Actually, it was more like 1945-6 according to records. The log was the 1st prototype. Gibson made several prototypes in 1950 for Les Pauls approval and finally it was released for production in 1952.

Well Skorb and John got it...but the Log was NOT the first prototype. It didn't count as the first "SOLIDBODY" version of the LP. The Log was an experiment that led Gibson to run up some ideas for a solidbody electric guitar. It was 1948 that Les and Gibson president Ted McCarty began running up the shape and style that we all know. They were shown at NAMM in 1950-51 and released for production in '52

A little cross-info John....I got mine out of George Fuller's book.
Although, I've heard the stats you have as well
