  • Non-Gibby Les Paul suggestions?

Looking for a good non-Gibson Les Paul. Any suggestions / recommendations for brands/models to check out?

PRS SE Singlecut. GREAT guitars, just bought my son the import Tremonti model for $400.00.

+1 The PRS import singlecuts are great. Also look at old Ibanez, Aria and even Epiphone but you need to play several of them to find the right one.

If you've got the cash, the Hamer Monaco Elite is an amazing guitar.

If you want to save some coin, try to find a Monaco Elite Mahogany on the used market. They were disontinued due to lack of interest. But they are every bit as high quality as the others, just without the bling. You could probably find one for around $800 if you're patient.

Orville, Greco, Burny, Tokai, (Pearl) .. the earlier LP copies of these brands are killer!!

That would be my choice. If your budget is anywhere around $1K, you could pull this off with careful shopping. Maybe an LP Classic with a plain top.

+1 I just bought an Agile and it looks, sounds and feels like my vintage Les Pauls. Very good quality for a Korean made guitar.

Try either a pre or post lawsuit Ibanez LP or Greco. I had a Greco LPC with an ebony board that was on Par with any $2K Gibson.

GMP Pawn Shops are the best LP-style guitars I've run across. Once in a while you can find a really cool-looking one as well:
