  • What strat am i searching for?

    Hi

I recently played a fender am standard stratocaster (alder w rosewood fretboard) - i was really stunned - i think it was easily one of the best guitars i've ever played ( probably only this particular guitar but who knows ) - killer neck for shredding (sweep picking , alternate etc) GREAT resonance from the body etc.

As i'm a diehard floyd user and a metalhead at the same time - is there something that has a floyd , 22 frets (doubt i'd find a 24 fretter ) and a hss routing ( could be sss - a luthier could easily mod this right ? ) - preferably maple fretboard (for some reason - that one that i played wasn't but somehow i feel attracted to maple fretboard on a strat )

Is there or was there any model that would fit this description ?

and - could it be that the resonance was so huge (believe me HUUUGE - even guitars with TOM bridges were quiet compared to this acoustically ) because of the v-trem ?

    AND

What's this Satin Polyurethane - is this the same thing as those guitars some of you fellas are getting oiled ?

Is oiled any better/faster etc than this satin polyurethane finished necks and also painted necks ??

There was a Floyd'd model produced until a year or two ago. IIRC, it was called the "Floyd Rose Classic" strat.

No, satin finished necks are not like oiled necks. And as to oiled vs. satin vs. gloss, it all comes down to personal preference. But Warmoth does a pretty good basic description of the pluses and minuses:

yes,...it was called an hot rod reissue strat (made in japan)...looked like an old strat from the late 50's...but had 22 frets, floyd rose, and a dimarzio humbucker in the bridge...didnt make them but a few years...kinda hard to find but well worth looking for...the 57 version had a maple neck and the 62 had rosewood i believe...shortened terminology called the HRR strat...d.m.

I see Floyd Fenders every once in a while on the Bay. It's no big thing. Just pricey.
I am a true ass set to this board.

Sounds like G&L makes exactly what your looking for. They have a model called the Invader that you can order it in a swamp ash body (premier finishes) or alder (solid finishes) and with a maple or rosewood fingerboard. The cool thing with them is that you can customize their instruments and only pay for the things you want. It's a 22 fret, floyded, 2 singles (G&L custom wound that sound great) and a TB-4 that has a coil tap switch strat. There's also the Legacy HB that's pretty much the same without the floyd. I've played on most of their models and know the line pretty well, so if you need any more info drop me a PM or something

Actually, what you are looking for is called a charvel. Better necks than the fender standard stuff for letting it rip IMHO. A broken in oiled neck will kill anything with a finish if you want fast, easy feeling (though satin is better than gloss). My '86 has the swimming pool route so it can be what ever pup config you want:

The Custom Shop Contemporary Strat is also fairly close to what you're looking for. Locking v-trem, bridge hum, rosewood board, etc.

I'll take a closer look at those models - this charvel is beautiful but i'd probably pay more than for a kidney. The g&l thing looks interesting also - i'll take a closer look at it.
I'm also considering one of the Polish custom shops - I could build it to my specs for cheap

but those are plans for after-summer - now i'm waiting for my seven string and then if all goes well i'll be working for my first jackson usa ( wait... charv el...strathead...has...to...come...first )

I know you're not in the US, but there's always Carvin:

There's also the Richie Sambora signature (Mexican and USA) and the Iron Maiden model (Japanese) if you can find them

The Floyd Rose Classic was a USA made guitar - from what I remember of the specs, it was basically similar to the Richie Sambora signature, but without the star inlays.
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

yeah this a Jackson and Charvel board but Fender makes some good shiot....you could always but a std trem and have a floyd added. Everyone needs a good strat.

                          btw...that G&L is a beauty

yeah but can i add a floydnut on a fender neck ? the reason i'm asking is that the headstocks aren't angled and the space between the normal nut and the curve that goes down from the fretboard level to the headstock level is quite short.

That'd be the ideal solution imho.
