  • Sitar anyone?

Cracked out the ol' Coral Sitar today, gave it a good cleaning and a fresh set of 19 shiny new strings

My Dad has one like this:

I tried to learn to play it when I was 16, but I didn't have the patience.
    Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

Cool Sitar! If I get one of those, can I sound like Ravi Shankar? I got to see him once at Princeton University just after George Harrison did the Bangladesh(sp?) concert at Madison Square Garden back in 1973. I think it was '73?

I could be wrong, but I believe they just resonate.

I know they are "drone" strings. I think you can tune them to the key of what you are playing. I don't know if you tune them all the same or not?

Maybe I should cancel the SL3 I'm waiting on and get one of these puppies from ebay instead?

How does it sound? I was thinking of getting a Variax and one of the main reasons is for the Sitar.

It actually sounds awesome. I use my Variax through a POD XT Live, not sure if it would make a difference if you just ran it into an amp.

Great, thanks. Do you have the acoustic or solid body version of the Variax? Last time I looked, I saw the acoustic had the Sitar, but I imagine the solid body can have it as well.

I have the solid body discontinued 500 model. The Sitar is one of the selections in the "Reso" setting.
